It seems to me that scientists are working this thing in the wrong direction. I mean, why are they trying to figure out the (to our knowledge) most complex brain in the world? Isn't that like starting your studies as a computer engineer with trying to reverse engineer an Athlon processor or the equivalent?
Wouldn't it be a better idea to first try to fully understand and map out a very small brain like, let's say, a bee or something similar? Their brains sure perform lot's of functions (Like before mentioned image recognition), but there is much less brain cells and synapses and stuff to examine. Then they could work their way up with more and more complex brains.
Just like the ppl who mapped the human genes have done, they started with simple flies...
A long time ago (I don't remember where)I read an article about motionsickness, it naturally wasn't about simulation sickness, as there at the time weren't any simulators around(at home at least).
The reason, they claimed, was that our ancestors, thousands of years ago, were very often eating bad food, poisonous berries, bad meat and such things. Because of this they developed this ability to throw up everything in the stomach when the body signalled that something was wrong with the thing they had eaten.
So... What was the signal of poisoning? Anyone that have ever eaten something that makes you very sick knows that the symptoms are illnes and dizzieness! Yup, that's right. When they ate something bad their vision went crazy. And that was the signal to the body to get rid of all they had had for supper.
I don't know if the theory is true or if science have found any better explanation, but it kind of makes sense to me...
If I could get an Amiga with up-to-date HW, up-to-date SW and up-to-date pricetag, I'd throw this crappy wintelbox out the window the very next moment...
Yeah, and then think about how it will be when they introduce "force feedback mind controller devices" FFMCD(tm)... Feel that railgun in your brains!!!;)
Just think "open photoshop" and automagically photoshop opens... No more fiddeling around with the start-menu/program/adobe/photoshop4/blablabla... Or... I could of course place a link on the desktop...;)
But isn't reading the electric impulses from the brain almost the same concept as speech recognition? You compare the signal results with previous results, and perform the action linked to the most similar result in the database?
And as for God being dead, please wake up and try and overcome your secular humanist brainwashing. God is not dead - after all He is eternal, and your words put you straight on the path to eternal damnaion. Think about it.
Huh? Are you serious? I bet you are the kind who still fights Darwins theories of evolution...
I thought about it too... It's almost as stupid as when people points to a monitor and exclaim "Look at that cool computer"... Well, ignorance isn't punishable as far as I know...
Come on, as long as the box isn't processing anything, just call it box... If not Intel or AMD invented a cpu that's 30 cm tall and looks like a fish... Maybe it's waterresistant too, so you can use the bathtub as cooling-device... Yeah!
Maybe I could cope with it if it was a some "ordinarey" newspaper or tabloid or something, but... This is Cnet, goddamnit!!! They should know what they talk about!
Well... Yes, the mirror works, and so far everything's cool...
But the real horror begins when you run NetscapeSetup.exe... The "smart(???)download"-proggy is fixed to ftp.netscape.com... And the speeds are as presumed...;(
Oh, god I hate these "download-a-small-setup-proggy-that-downloads-the- rest"... Gimme back these nice old 13 MB+ setupfiles that you could download from a more local ftp... *sigh*
Well... In the not too far future when we all have cheap colourcapable printers and fair connection speeds, they could post their lyrics, info, etc. as.pdf printables... That way you would have a nice lil "book of the CD" instead of those tiny crappy CD-covers...
Remember the LP-covers? They were cool, cause there were more space for band related art... most CD-covers today are pretty boring... I think the size-variable is the connection...

Yeah... Wouldn't your cellular phone all off a sudden be very sensitive to electromagnetic fields..?
Are you sure the effect from a nuclear blast is enough to fry CDs? Of course it's dependant of the distance from impact, but i guess if the energy is as powerful to destroy CDs it's powerful enough to destroy most things...? You have pretty high effect in microwaves, right?
How is this news? I don't get why Slashdot keeps on posting stories about Linux. Sure, Linux may have been cool at the time, but it haven't been improved for years, and with all the advances in computing technology since then, I don't understand why everyone keeps fawning over it, much less why it's still relevant to any of us.
Hehe... Just a thought... Possible? i don't know... =)

If you (like me) worry about the artist not getting their money, then you should buy their records.
Many ppl will then say that they can't afford all the music they "must" have and so on, and that's why they copy music instead of buying.
What is the solution then?
Well, why not at least try to buy the albums you like very very much, and listen to a couple of times a month, at least?
And that is even more important, if the band isn't a major band... An artist, like Prince, Madonna or Boyzone, will still survive if you steal their music,(how immoral that is, I leave for you to decide), but for a minor band a "few" thousands or even hundreds of illegal records could make an enormous difference...

Late Jay Miner should have had one of these thingies too, or maybe David Haynie.
At least they made a computer that was close to revolutionary... Not a freakin colorless mac...

When I view the link in netscape it reloads all the time... Over and over again, without me pushing the button.
Funny effect, but not very practical. Anyone else have the same problem?

We can always dream, can't we?
Monitor -> eyes -> brain -> nerves -> mouse -> Computer
Monitor -> eyes -> brain -> Translator device -> Computer
If the translator device is real fast, alt.2 is probably the faster and better way.

Even if the word daikatana doesn't exist, it wouldn't prevent some ancient japanese guy from giving the name to his sword?
