Just use links and gvim and never look back. Hell throw away the whole window manager and just stick with vim instead. It's not like you need those extra UI elements taking up your precious CPU cycles, right?

Maybe if you had like an N900 where you have a full Linux install and you can make quick edits, maybe. MAYBE. Even with my Pandora and my Gentoo boot of it doing anything on a tiny screen is a total pain.

I'm not justifying their actions, I just want to know.

Newsflash: all filesystems fragment. The idea that extX doesn't is a fantasy and if you believe it it's no better than people believing Linux/Mac doesn't get viruses and trojans.

Ext3 and 4 however are resistant to it though, but currently there's no way to defragment them.

I'm not saying Google is good nor evil, I'm just explaining how one might come up with these judgements.

Install Arch. That's the distro for you if you want to go 100% bare. When you install Gnome for example you get the bare minimum required. No yelp, no alacarte, no Evolution, IM client, epiphany/firefox/Chromium, nothing, just gnome and the panel and their dependencies.

Or you can install Ubuntu from this:

Which marginally does the same thing.
