    Such as? The phone that turned out to have been launched after the iPhone announcement? Or maybe some photoshop job posted to some blog somewhere? The myth that Apple store the GUI from Xerox when they in reality had a contract?

    The Nike "swoosh" is also a "minimalist design". Yet if I make a logo that looks almost the same, except I put a pink dot in the middle of mine, Nike are still going to haul my ass to court.

    Do they? Is that the complete court filings compressed into one sentence? Where did you read the court filings? (And doctored documents posted by bloggers do not count as court filings.) Is it possible Slashdot posters and the judge have different sources?

    So... Microsoft should not charge for Word because it is "based off" WordStar and WordPerfect? Excel should not cost more than VisiCalc since it is just a derivative? Please realize you CAN patent a particular implementation of an idea even if the basic idea already exists.

    I am starting to wonder if not open-source zealots really are as communist as their detractors claim...

    Sure, if you look form a vantage point of either libertarian utopism or totalitarian fascism (both considered "far right") then everything else seems "left wing". To a European, with actual socialist and communist parties, there is quite a larger right wing.

    The Sun is the main net input of energy, yes. But that does not mean man cannot affect how that energy is distributed in the climate systems on the planet. Which has been shown to be likely.

    But humans are cutting down plants instead, e.g. deforestation. For plants to absorb and store CO2 they need to grow. As in, trees growing for decades. And when did small-scale experiments have any bearing on large-scale effects? Does your funny little party trick deal with the effects of increased CO2 absorption in the seas for instance?

    So: One of the strengths of open source (the ability to fork it if you want to) becomes something bad if Apple does it? "They have taken" as if the KHTML devs were physically ass-raped or something when WebKit was established. I cannot remember having seen anything in any open-source license that required you to be grateful for the gift of this software...
