There might be something to her arguments. Industry does not want to stick with a $.99 a song model. They sue people, but never take it to court, and insist upon a "settlement". They have prices fixed for almost 20 years now. Sounds like a abusive monopoly to me.
Hopefully the industry will get bitch-slapped by this. If this lady were to win, then people the RIAA has "successfully sued" might ban together and sue the RIAA. It could potentially get really messy for the RIAA.
The industry basically needs to realize that their products are too expensive, and that the quality is not as good. They need to really get behind the legal download model, such as iTunes rather than making innuendos about "decapiting" it.
No way I'd want them to have Nuclear anything. They are an unstable country, with open hostility to other countries. Would you give North Korea nuclear energy as well? If it is such a great source of energy, then why aren't we using it more in the US?
Because it is not a good source of energy in its present state.
How can they tack on this crap? Why can't they just pass laws/bills that do what they are supposed to do? I can't understand how Demos/Repubs can get away with this. It's like in California where we have one guy getting his gay marriage bill pushed through without having it put up for a vote by the people......
And then they wonder why we think politicians suck....
Wrong. That the reason why prices are supposedly high is the lack of refining. Oil supply on the West Coast has not been hurt at all. Neither has the refining capability. So, the high prices are from.....????
Read any report you want today, the supply of oil right now is not the problem. But California, which supposedly makes its own blend of gas, refines it, receives the crude oil, should not be affected by the Hurricane problems.
I'm not a Tree Hugging Commie Pinko Terrorist. I don't do Beowolf Clusters either. Perhaps you need to cut down on the internet porn or something.....
I'm someone who doesn't understand why the gas prices in my state are higher due to something that happened in the Gulf coast when the oil companies say that we don't get any gas from there. Why I'm paying over $3 a gallon.
Blake's 7 guys. Classic Sci-fi. Star Trek Next Generation as #3???
Totally agree that Battle Star Galatica is on track to being #1. It is an incredible show. A lot of powerful episodes, especially when they recombined the fleet. That was some great stuff there. Looking forward to what happens with the Pegasus.
The cost to actually produce a GOOD album is probably $50K. Last album I did tracks for, they were spending about $30K for 12 songs. Most of the time making an album is mixing. You can record 8 hours, and spend 4 times that amount mixing. So, if you are Maroon 5, and go record, say you plunk out $150K. Ok. And then you sell CDs at $16+ a piece. Ok. Then go look at DVD Movies. They spend MILLIONS, and they are right about the same price. And there is just as much work done there, if not more.
I am one of those who's gripe with the who CD thing is that they have been the SAME price since the 80s. It doesn't make sense.
Of course GAS prices don't make sense either. Why we out here in California get dinged with really high prices after these hurricanes? They always say that our prices are because of the lack of refineries in California, and that they cannot ship gas in from out of state. Yet now when these two hurricanes go through, our prices jump up like $.20.
Oil/Gas and RIAA are price gouging. Plain and simple.
Seriously! Do they want a part of the power company's money when the CD/iPod is draining power as well? How much of the $.99 is going towards the record companies? $.80 or something.
Insane. You don't see the DVD industry charging more for new releases. They USED to do that. I can remember when I was in high school, new releases on VHS (before DVD days) were upwards of $99. Yet on Laser Disc, they were $39. (Yeah, I have a laser disc player still).
Seems like the MPAA learned a lesson there. Sell more at a reasonable price and you get more profit. Perhaps if the RIAA would follow suite. Downloads at $.99 and CDs for like $10. They would make a lot more money. I'd buy more.
Lets see, you can stream iTunes over a LAN. You can use music in a movie (if you use a Mac you can. DRMed music, I'm not sure). There are ways to strip out the DRM. Then you can edit it, or whatever you want to do to it.
You said nice and iRiver in the same sentance? Wow. Grado headphones are overrated. Sennheiser 580s all the way man.
How can you say iTunes is the worst player ever? What do you use? WinAmp? Yikes...
And this is EXACTLY what you CAN do with iTunes. I too have a server, FreeBSD, that holds all my iTunes (RAID 5) songs. It took months to get all of them ripped. I can connect to it, fill up my iPod, etc.
I think a lot of people assume that using iTunes/iPod you are stuck with DRM software. You aren't people. You only get that with PURCHASED music from iTunes Music Store.
No. I'm suggesting that we don't know anything on the subject. We should stop greenhouse gases, and stop using fossil fuel as well. But to say that all this Hurricane activity is the result of Global Warming isn't science, it's speculation.
I own over a thousand CDs. I ripped them into AAC format for a couple of reasons, mainly because they are smaller and sound better than 192 VBR MP3s. That is what I was ripping my stuff until AAC came out.
As for players, I've tried a bunch. I owned one of those Creative MP3 players back in 2000. The one that is shaped like a CD player. Crap. iPod still is the best player. I have students who have Dells, and Rios, and whatever else. They are not as good as the iPod in my opinion.
I still buy CDs. I have only bought 20 or 30 songs off iTunes. Yet I seriously doubt I will be playing it on anything other than an iPod in the next couple of years....
What Apple should do is start it's own label. They should buy Apple (the Beatles UK company), or partner with them, and have artists who would produce music on CD through Apple (UK) and via iTunes (Apple).
I think the whole music industry needs a shaking up, and a Apple + Apple thing could be the key. Music, done right. Supporting the artists who make the music.
You could always buy into the subscription model of music. That is what it sounds like you want.
I find I like the original recordings better mostly. It's like Black and White movies. The artists work with whatever medium they had at the time, and got it to sound (or in the case of B&W movies, look) the way they wanted, and that was that.
I'm sure that the Beatles could have done some funky ass stuff with Dolby Surround. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds could have been tripped out big time. But they didn't have access to it. So....why would I want a DTS5 channel version of it? Did John help remix it? No.
I do like my classic jazz remastered. But anything past like 1965 or so should be left alone.
Brown coats did win in the end.
Yuck, and yuck. I'll stick to my Mac Mini (Mini Mac).
Hopefully the industry will get bitch-slapped by this. If this lady were to win, then people the RIAA has "successfully sued" might ban together and sue the RIAA. It could potentially get really messy for the RIAA.

If you really don't see this, you need glasses.
And then they wonder why we think politicians suck....

Knowing Dr. Who, then missing Blake's 7. Ok. But to also miss Farscape? No excuse there. These guys do not know scifi.
And if you read this, it further confirms that California has no way to ship gas back and forth. So, we are being jacked. Big time.
Oil companies are making HUGE profits off of everyone from these Hurricanes.
Seriously! We are getting reamed. And now the RIAA wants to do the same thing.
Probably has the last name of RIMMER. Probably has visited Rimmerworld and liked it. Yikes!
There is a lot of stuff they left out that could have bumped some of these other guys off....

I suppose you'd drive your Model T around instead of the latest sports car or Hybrid. Whatever.

Why do I need new remastered versions all the time. I can't keep track of how many different Coltrane remasters there are out there......
