The summary is incorrect. This browser is based on the open source Chromium, not Chrome, a subtle but important difference since Chrome has Google's extra tracking goodness. However, I have to wonder why they didn't start with Firefox, which is truly open source and not connected at all with Google, which has pretty much become the poster child of privacy invasion these days.
According to Chromecast's official support page, Linux isn't supported: https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/3209990?hl=en. I'm hearing mixed reports that it works, or doesn't, on various distros. At any rate, Google has done a lousy job of supporting the platform that made them rich (think Picasa for Linux, the non-existent Linux Drive client, etc.).
I don't have a Chromecast. For one thing, it doesn't seem to do much more than my Blu-Ray and HDTV can already do. For another, I'm not sure I could even use it with my Linux box. Has anyone been able to use it with Linux?
You have got to be kidding me. I've never bought an Apple product, so I can't comment on the packaging, but my Nexus 7 arrived a couple of days ago, and I thought it was quite nicely packaged. A couple of scissor snips and the dreaded taped sides were open. This post is Apple fanboi trolling at its finest.
I've tried several releases of Ubuntu over the years, only to give up in frustration at all the configuration needed just to (for example) get wireless to work. Finally, with Precise, Ubuntu "just works" (pretty much) right out of the box. Per TFA, Quantal will rely on fallbacks because AMD Catalyst and NVIDIA binary Linux graphics drivers won't work with Wayland. Huh? Why shoot themselves in the foot when they've finally gotten things right, just for something that's primarily cosmetic?
