    If the bigger they are, the harder they fall, then too big to fail just means the shockwaves will cause too much damage.

    Actually, there is. It's called a blacklist.

    Patently illegal in many areas, but still used whenever someone in the upper crust decides to get ugly and start a grudge against you.

    And since they're chummy with the guys making the rules, the politicians, you can't win.

    The problem is that the server storing your account information is trusting the terminal.

    If the terminal can get away with trusting the signal it's getting from the card, then it's actually possible for a counterfeit terminal to rob you without even having the card.

    AIs and humans have one thing in common, they need taught.

    No human can do that right off the bat.

    Of course it's a stretch to expect AIs to surpass ADULT humans that have already gone through at least 12 years of education.

    The brain relies on quantum mechanics to do its things, which is uncopyable state.

    Humans have this thing called "education" that takes place over a good 12 years or so.

    I assume that an AI with a blank slate would need a similiar method of programming.

    But, notice the Doe. The one fighting it had to remain anonymous out of fear.

    If you make it illegal to GO to court, then how are you supposed to fight it IN court?

    Unfortunately the gov backed out before a precedent could be set...kinda like the RIAA dropping a lawsuit when things go sour.

    Computation and the like is a procedural, left brained sort of activity. Much of human society delegates that sorta stuff to a computer, but the right brained creative stuff is kept by humans because so far humans are best at it.

    Any meaningful effort in humanlike AI will need to beef up computerized creativity.

    The two party system itslef is flawed. Corporate dictators have corrupted them both, so it's no better than a one party system with two faces.

    It's actually worse, because we the people are kept in the dark about who is REALLY running the show. Honestly though, it's no different from how china runs things, except that in china you KNOW the communists are in charge.
