  2. Re:The final test of the Bazaar model on Has Linux Development Become Too Political? · · Score: 1

I think "Centralized" and "Firm Management" cannot be related to the kernel development process let alone, applied to it. The very concept of it is having various view points being expressed in a open enviroment, then thru peer discussion and review the best features get added. From time to time ego's and politics WILL get in the way of making a better piece of software, but as long as they stick with the whole "OPEN" (source, idea, mind, etc.) concept it will succeed.

  3. ego's and Development on Has Linux Development Become Too Political? · · Score: 3

I noticed the thread in the KC on Linux care and was kinda suprised to see some not so professional communication, as I read some of the response it became clear that the e-mail that started it was made out of frustration (you've spent years working on something and then you're told, it's not ready yet). I think initial responses had a little too much ego, but as they go on, they get down to business. I think this model will work in the long run, as long as people STAY OPEN MINDED, and are willing to listen and explain. Beware the darkside!

First, I'm not a raido expert at all, but has anyone done real testing to see how each of these devices are causing each other problems. 2.4ghz has been un-lic for a while without problems, (yes it has gotten a lot more popular). I think some "real" testing should be conducted. I'd hate to see wireless devices take even longer to implement ...

I think what they have done is a big step in the right direction as long as it is controlled by a group or council that is made up of a cross-section of the industry and not just a bunch of Sun people looking out for Sun's interests. This, I think, would allow it to grow into something that progress out of the industries needs not, just Sun'scoporate direction. How many people now are using Java in a enterprise enviroment for critical systems? How many people would be more accepting of it if it were controlled diferently (i.e. the concil thingy)?

Does this mean it's sorta open/standardized? I think that is what is holding it back.. if it were standardized would this not generate a better product, much more inter-operable, etc. Anyone?

I can do almost anything in Linux while I burn, xmms, Netscape, compiling short stuff is as risky as I get (I won't push it and run Q3:). But windows I don't trust.. I let the system alone for 9min for a burn. It's just to unstable to do much of anything while burning. This seems a little more than odd...
Lack of drivers? Their build dumb clients. What type of hardware do these run? Linux has been ported to several popular HW platforms. Drivers should be Display (loads of support for laptop chipsets) and Networking (ne2k worst case!). devices such as Barcode scanners are usually use keyboard splitters, Even if it's a serial one... it's SERIAL! Simple recepit printers could be plain text printers. As for barcode printers I don't think WinCE has any better support. This has to be Micro$oft related. They have no real reason to switch unless M$ had applied some pressure. Driver support... get a real reason!
