  1. The whole idea is flawed on Napster Clone With Pay Per Download · · Score: 1

Micro payments? I think that is the wrong way to look at it. First of all, the internet and the web is and MUST remain free for the whole world to benefit. If some wise corporation starts making money with this, we're history. At least I know I wouldn't pay or support any micro-payment system. I'll go full time to Freenet instead.

  2. Freenet is anonymous on Compressed Beyond Recognition: An MP3 Compendium · · Score: 3

Freenet, a new type of internet connection is anonymous for sharing and storing files. http://freenet.sourceforge.net/ From their website: "What is Freenet? Freenet is a peer-to-peer network designed to allow the distribution of information over the Internet in an efficient manner, without fear of censorship. Freenet is completely decentralized, meaning that there is no person, computer, or organisation in control of Freenet or essential to its operation. This means that Freenet cannot be attacked like centralized peer-to-peer systems such as Napster. Freenet also employs intelligent routing and caching meaning that it learns to route requests more efficiently, automatically mirrors popular data, makes network flooding almost impossible, and moves data to where it is in greatest demand. All of this makes it much more efficient and scalable than systems such as Gnutella. "

  3. Re:A new record on IBM Constructs New Fastest Computer · · Score: 1

I think they should put this super-computer to the real test, not just trust IBM for it. They should ask it to provide the answer to life the universe and everything... of course we already know the answer is 42, but the computer doesn't.

  4. Re:Wouldn't it be cool if cars were named by Intel on Intel Announces Pentium 4 · · Score: 3

Well, the problem is that Intel cannot go up from Pentium because they'll get Sextium... on the other hand, maybe it will make for sexier computers, as in: I named my computer Helga and she has a very fast sextium.

  5. All the best software always comes free on Should We Be Wary Of Free-Beer Software? · · Score: 1

It is my experience from when I was using Windows that all the best software came free, at least for home using. The only exception maybe Quicken. I had a rule with my old Windows: if they want to charge for it, its probably not worth it. Point in case: for IRC the best Windows client is mIRC, it's "shareware" and always have been, with no limits to how long you use it. Other greats: RealAudio- RealPlayer. Netscape. Cu-Seeme. And all the multitude of very functional and good quality programs out there for windows that are either shareware or freeware. Linux can only benefit from this, in my opinion.

  6. Hype hype and only hype! on Corel Linux to Access and Run Windows Apps · · Score: 1

I strongly suggest everybody to double check any statements made by Corel. They have been hyping their stock price via lots of Linux related press releases. But the truth is, earnings have gone way way down. They are not selling anything and their CFO had to quit last month. I don't believe anything Corel says anymore, sorry, and I do not think they are an ethical company.
