  3. Bah on Is The Internet Destroying Spanish? · · Score: 1

The spanish have been crying the same for centuries. They used to translate FAMILY names from famous people into spanish so their students where not influenced by "foreign" words, ie, the German artist Albrecht Duhrer became Alberto Durero in spanish textbooks.

Also it has been a common practice in spanish speaking countries not to allow foreign language first names for newborn kids. Only aproved spanish names could be use. This in most of latin america and Spain. Some countries have abandon this in the last 20 years or so, but some others still have this rule. All in the name of "protecting" the spanish language.

The real reason for this is a racist heritage and distrust of anything that is foreign. Remember, this is the same people that made whole civilizations like the INCAS dissapear, abandon their culture and convert into christianity or die. Also spanish had to be the only speaking language for them...

Nice people the spaniards, I feel soooo sad english is "creeping" up on them.

  5. The Florida Lotto is fully computerized! on Slashback: Election, Election, Election · · Score: 1

There is a system in place in Florida that casts bets, the Florida Lotto. Our beloved elected officials spent a big chunk of money making sure their computers work and are located everywhere.

I've never heard of a single lost bet or misread bet in the lotto so far. It's a VERY reliable and accurate system. So how come we still vote with punch cards down here?

The answer is, everybody scratches where they have an itch. The florida officials are more interested in collecting an ever growing amount of money, than in the accuracy of the voting system.

It's of course our own fault for not kicking their butts out of office. Maybe this time we'll wake up and just do it.

  6. We already have a computerized system in Florida on Analysis: Reforming Political Technology · · Score: 2

    It's called the Florida Lotto.

The Florida goverment invested a lot of money on computers for the Florida Lotto system, and it's been working with no mistakes for years and I have never heard of any missed bet or fucked up entry so far.

So, why can't they invest some money in a computerized voting system?

The answer is simple, they don't really care about voters, they DO care about stealing your money with a lotery system that's very lopsided. But hey, it's our fault for not kicking their collective asses to hell.

  10. Drug testing the candidates before the election on Ask the Presidential Candidates · · Score: 2

My question is this: When I went for a job interview this year, I was asked to take a drug test at a designated hospital as a pre-requisite to getting the job. Most americans have experienced the same, and also being tested once a year at their jobs. Recently in a book about president Nixon, one of his advisors said that Nixon was addicted to some pills not prescribed by his doctor. So, are the canditates for President of the USA getting tested for drugs so we can be sure they are drug free? Would you both agree to being tested before the election, and every year if you are elected President? This should also be required of all the staff.

All the radio stations play the same fucking music all the time, everywhere in the country, do we really need this same shit over the net? I think not. What's really great about napster, gnutella, and any file sharing over the internet is the fact that there is no format, no big music business pushing the lame artist all over the place promo, no having to play this music because it's what makes the advertisers spend money on this station, etc etc. The net is anarquic by itself, lets keep it that way.
