I can see file-based user interfaces becoming a niche, 99% of the world doesn't need to learn how to manage a file structure! Why does this program want to install to C Drive? What's C Drive? The common user has all their computing needs in their pocket these days with a task/action based UI that's far easier to understand and near impossible for them to delete that "windows" folder or format that drive.
I've seen a huge decrease in people needing my help in the last five years to fix their desktop and an increase of people asking me to make them an app. This is because the common user is better able to understand their computer (phone or tablet) because functions and actions aren't hidden behind a complex layer of little folder pictures.
I didn't like Diablo when I played it on the PC, I gave it another try when my brother rented it out for the Playstation.
We went out and bought it the next day and played co-op for weeks! It's one of my favourite Playstation memories, maybe because it was a solid co-op title that helped two brothers bond:)
I wasn't that big a fan of Diablo 2 though, completed it just for the story but got bored often and took long breaks. I think it lost something in the added complexity and multiple towns/segments. I enjoyed the simple one town, one dungeon concept.
Hey we Aussies stop playing games shortly after turning 15! So what's the big deal with wanting to protect our children from these nasty video games aimed at corrupting our youth?
And as far as I have been told by our overlords.. sorry government. Is that child porn is rampant online and you stumble across it far too often, if the solution is as easy as blocking a website why not let them do it to protect us? While they're at it they can protect us from websites that are pro-abortion, that help teenagers deal with being gay and block any depictions of women with small breasts.. *shiver* We like em big down under!
Typical. First AI learns to walk, then it gets a job working in the UK police force and since being in a government job means lots of free time it's now socializing... All in a days work... I guess the fears of AI taking over were exaggerated, it's just as lazy as most humans only more faster and efficient.
It can make some fairly decent 2d games, I spent a few years creating a mixed-genre game in Revolution 2.x series. It's got sim, rts, tbs, rpg elements and the source code for it was released earlier this year. http://www.taggedsoftware.com/ I think you'll find the source code link in the blog section. It's a poor choice for game development though as the graphics engine for revolution seems to use the native api's instead of opengl, no hardware acceleration makes for some slow graphics intense scenes.
I've been following Alcor for years now, always love reading their news letter informing of new changes and improvements to cryonics and how many people are now under cryostasis. Indeed I am thinking of getting this done, the price is certainly worth it.. But now I worry, if the research is true then would you come out hundreds of years in the future not knowing who you were? Would you come out as if you were a new-born? Learning difficulties wouldn't be a problem in the future due to chip/memory implementations (When they are able to bring back a person from cryostasis, I'm almost certain this tech would be waiting), but having no recollection of who you were brings up a sore spot.
Perhaps it's an advantage though? Being that all your friends and family would have been dead for centuries, you wouldn't have that longing of seeing them again!

Lightpeak wasn't an Apple idea, that rumour was squashed last year: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13924_3-10363956-64.html Still excited to see it coming out next year!
