good call. i do cable internet support and all day long i'm dealing with windows machines that are bogged down with piles of crap either pre-installed as "value-added" or other TSRs that that been installed by QT or Adobe, etc.
i'm not really allowed (nor do i have a desire) to walk people through cleaning their startup list. they complain of slow internet connections (despite ping test results to the contrary) when it is their spyware-ridden computers that are the issue.
Seriously, the UN has proved itself impotent, our corporations and their subsidiary -- the government are operating without accountability; and we're stuck in the middle.
we were free, some of us are brave, the rest don't care. funny that all these assholes were calling for a boycott of france, but seem to have forgotten who gave it to us -- or who helped us in the american revolution.
exactly. i admit that i voted for him the first time (ironically, for his military policies), but not the second.
that being said, i wish the rest of the world would put a sock in the "change the situation" crap.
we have no options, we have no choice. (non-local) elections in this country are a farce. joe average doesn't have the resources (read: money) to have his interests represented.
while i realize that money and corruption in politics is nothing new, and certainly not to the scale that it is in other countries -- we still have no say in the policies and legislation that really matters.
while we don't have it as bad as those in say the Congo or Zimbabwe, it's still a wretched state of affairs. what makes is so reprehensible is that we have this (declining) high standard of living which contributes to the complacency that has facilitated our current state of affairs.
i do support for Comcast, and i end up taking everyone's usenet calls.
that said, i wonder how long before we drop our usenet service. perhaps i should just put up the money for GN and be done with it.
this.
I harbor no illusions about my music. I'll likely never sell 100,000 copies of my first release, or my second.
I'll likely not get some huge sponsorship deal.
But, I get to do what I like with my music; I can sell it online, sell CDs at shows, shirts, etc.
I do it because I enjoy it. If it ever becomes profitable enough to quit my day job, great!
But yeah, I mostly started it because I thought it would be cool.
i have a friend who was a photographer for Newsweek during the golden days of the Space Race.
he has an impressive collection of space and technology photography (some of which he has given me) that would look great on those walls.
let me know
exactly. adblock saves me from having to see those obnoxious ads as well as preventing any potential spyware embedded in some irritating flash ad.
noscript as well.
i work for comcast and i know why people are angry. if i didn't work here, i might not pay for the internet service in principle.
compared the dwindling resources, food and oil shortages we're facing, the sun exploding would be a mercifully quick end. in reality though, humans have made their bed, and must lie in it.
don't think i'm being self-righteous or anything, i'm no different.
personally, i would rather be vaporized in a massive solar event or by a nuke than have to stick out what's waiting down the road for humankind.
because the corporations have ensured through the lobbying and purchase of "our" lawmakers that we as consumers have no say in these matters.
it may sound cliche, but what the f*ck can we do in the face of a corporation with deep pockets and such formidable legal representation as they typically have?
america is a plutocracy.
i stand corrected.
but you notice that the only thing not keeping pace with inflation is wages

what i don't understand is how it can be legal for the cable company to raise its rates *every* year.
seriously, wtf?
not now, i'm watching american idol

americans are too distracted to care.
you're right, i should have started saving my lobbyist bribe money at a much earlier age.

and you can believe that right before he leaves office there will be a flurry of pardons
so are they going to sue the city of new york for allowing fake handbags to be sold?

agreed. "i always wonder why the french beheaded marie antionette, no i fucking GET it!" -- lewis black
all these analogies are making me thirsty!
basically. as consumers, our protections from these corporations are being worn away...

like people who say "on today", "on tomorrow", or "on yesterday" -- goddamnit that bothers me. /rant off
perhaps so, but the suffering in the interim will be too terrible to imagine. i'm a pessimist, i guess.

yes, i know they have some charities that help the community.
but, as someone who was raised (not *still*) mormon, their beliefs are crazy and their religion is a cult.
