My point is at the student level it probably doesn't matter what they are using, hell they could probably get by with Abi Word as the things they do are simple enough. When the most important features used are being able to anchor a picture and have text go around it, bold some text, center some text, create a chart from some data, or create a really shitty presentation that you will read off the screen why would a student need MS Office. I don't think it is ready to meet all the needs of a professional who makes use of a large portion of the features in MS Office but how many students are creating macros or scripts in a spreadsheet, or having a word document make a connection to a DB to dynamically generate charts. Besides Power Point sucks and doesn't seem to provide any value in most cases and in every case where I have seen it used in education. I will admit that Visio kicks ass but there again how many students need to use Visio, especially since it isn't part of the standard office install.
When the weather gets bad I leave a lot of space, and don't just floor it like everyone else does. The worst was last year when it was sleeting out and the road was a sheet of ice. It took 2 hours to get home from a 10 mile drive, mostly due to accidents that blocked the road. People would go blowing past me at 45-50mph on major surface streets (the speed limit is typically 45 or 50 mph) and then have to try and stop because the light changed and slid into a car that was in the intersection causing a big pile up because there were other retards driving just like them. Also I like to go out and drive in an empty parking lot during the first snow or ice storm just to refresh my memory of how things behave and handle in crappy weather.
Here in Minnesota we don't allow studded tires but contrary to what many believe we do allow non barbed chains which still do wonders when put on all 4 wheels especially in deep snow. My Jeep isn't the Wrangler or CJ5/7 but is a Cherokee so it has a longer wheel base so it is better but I agree it isn't the best as it could use some more weight over the rear tires. The other nice thing about that Jeep is the low end torque out of the 4.0L inline 6, all I have to do is let the clutch out and it will creep along from a start which is nice as I don't have to touch the gas pedal at first when it is really slick out.
When it comes to stability a longer wheel base is better as the rear end comes around a lot slower if you start to fish tail if you only have RWD. Better still is FWD, 4WD, or AWD with AWD and 4WD being by far better. Also the differential type makes a huge difference with open diff just sucking balls (called old peg leg for a reason) with posi (limited slip) and locking diff each being progressively better. Most FWD vehicles and AWD ones only have open diffs for their simplicity and how brain dead easy they are for the user while posi or locking diffs seem to only be available as options on vehicles with 4WD, RWD, and some AWD. In bad weather I noticed a night and day difference after I changed out the open diff on my RWD sedan with an after market posi one but even with that the car still sucks in bad weather. The other factor I have found that plays a big role in bad weather handling is engine power, a engine the produces lots of low end torque but not tons of power and isn't a high revving one seems to do better. So engines like your diesel or my Jeep 4.0L are better than those high strung turbo charged little 4 bangers or massive gas V8s. Of course having the correct type of tires and proper weight distribution helps as well.
Possibly, but given how many people I have tried to teach that to it seems that there is a large swath that really struggle even when using the example of whole numbers vs. real numbers. I think the issue may be the abstractness of it, a countable infinity which tends to be the one most encountered still requires a fair amount of abstraction. Now introduce the concept of uncountable and some people just seem to give up or get very lost. When I first got introduced to the concept of different sized infinities I grasped it quite quickly while others struggled. Also the concept of infinity/n == infinity seemed very difficult for people to grasp even when only using countable infinities.
I would guess that his idea of guys being guys is what my uncle's coworkers at Waste Management do when they have to go do their mandatory yearly sexual harassment training. They basically sit there on their phones and look at and forward porn to each other. This is also what they do when they are out on their route and waiting for something.
Up here in Minnesota the worst are the people with the big full size trucks and SUVs with 4WD, auto 4WD, and AWD. They think they are invincible in them and even though they have "twice the traction" forget that twice the traction of almost nothing when on ice is still almost nothing and they end up in ditches or hitting trees and other stuff. Things like traction control and auto 4WD/AWD seem to have made things worse as now it just means that they don't need to think when they drive. Granted I have a sport sedan and that thing sucks in the snow and ice (RWD, tons of power, and fat tires) but I also have a beater Jeep for hunting, camping, hauling, and crap weather. It has manual locking hubs, manual 4WD, posi differentials, and some fairly aggressive tires. In the bad weather I frequently get passed by other vehicles that I will later see sitting in a ditch, smashed into another vehicle, or wrapped around a tree. The worse is when they are blocking the road, but hey I have a winch and tow chain so I have helped clear them out of the way and I have been known to pull people out of ditches.
Yet I managed to go through college running star office (I think it was v5.2) on a Linux desktop and laptop without issue. In college I never wrote very complex documents as most were the stupid English paper where I needed to tell the teacher what they wanted to hear. Even if the prof wanted an electronic version (rare at that time) the solution was to do a save as and it would work.
I always like introducing countable and uncountable infinities to people. The concept of one being larger than the other and that all sets of countable infinities are the same size (i.e. rational numbers, whole number, prime number, even numbers, etc) was always interesting. It is interesting watching them try to wrap their brain around that. I found that the easiest way for them to grasp the difference between countable and uncountable infinities is the difference between whole numbers and real numbers. A countable infinity will always have a finite number of elements between any two elements (whole numbers) where as an uncountable infinity will have an infinite number of elements between any to elements in the set (real numbers). What really would confuse them is that with an uncountable infinity there are an uncountable infinite number of elements between any any two elements, thus the number of elements between any two elements in an uncountable infinity is larger than a countable infinity.
With that I wonder if you could get a full refund when you let the smoke out as you were following the exact procedure outlined in the provided install guide.
As much fun as it is to bash the usually hawkish Republicans, in this case the Democrats are just as bad. They both want these projects as they can direct work and resources to their districts and thus be able to point to something and say I gave you that plant and the good paying high tech jobs that came with it. Now it isn't all Republicans or Democrats as there are some that are principled (truly fiscal conservative R or truly dovish D) but those seem to be exceedingly rare today.
I may be assuming incorrectly that you feel that the bar for entitlements would be substantially smaller than that for the military. If so you will be quite put out. Some individual entitlements may not be as large as the military budget but taken as a whole entitlements are far larger portion of the budget than the military. A quick search produced this course grained pie chart. If you would like a finer grained breakdown of the budget there is the obligitory XKCD reference. Then there is this (Obama's proposed 2012 budget) chart from the NY Times although there are other ones as well from the NY Times that I have previously found. If you just like spinning numbers there is always national debt clock which lists the 6 largest budget items of which military spending is listed as well as some of the entitlements.
Lets say I want to create a custom system that is mobile, doesn't need a screen but needs more IO capability than a phone/tablet. For these types of applications it is a perfect solution. It is not going to compete with things like laptops, servers, phones, tablets, but will compete with other embedded systems for one off development. A solution that came to my mind is one that someone already did with a BegalBoard for a Real Time Kinematic system. Instead of buying a commercial device to meet my amateur needs at many thousands of dollars I could build one for a few hundred. Also a system like this lowers the barrier for entry for embedded system development and provides more hardware power than something like the micro controller boards that exist. Not being a hardware guy and not wanting to get into being one these are the type of devices that I would want to develop projects for since all I need is stuff that connects over USB or other fairly standard connections, instead of a sack of components, bread board, and soldering iron.
A buddy of mine converted a 67 MG Midget to plug in electric and the biggest problem he had was having to get some better real leaf springs and ditching the wire knock offs for regular rims (requires replacing the rear half shafts and spindles).
This sounds similar to what is done with those large stationary, marine, or locomotive diesels. They are capable of some impressive Carnot cycle efficiencies some of which slightly exceed 50%. Granted it is still possible to get better efficiencies out of a turbine but the best of those are just over 60% (combined cycle gas turbine in a power plant).
I thought most diesel-electric locomotives used a 2 stroke diesel instead of a turbine. Granted I doubt that there would be that much difference in overall efficiency at the locomotive scale but a reciprocating piston engine would be cheaper to make that a turbine.
Given what I see far too many people are out pounding pavement with their SUVs every day in traffic going to and from work so improving the mileage one can get out of them would do a lot. I always chuckle at the people with a Hummer H2 or Cadillac Escalade on low profile tires on over sized chrome spinner rims with chrome suspension, and a winch. They would never take it some place that might damage the finish like a gravel road let alone go some place where they would need 4WD. I have a SUV and it is one of the few that spends most days parked along side the garage. In a given year I put about 3000-4000 miles on it mostly for hunting, camping, and hauling/towing, but I will drive it in the winter when the weather is bad or when I need to fix my daily driver. It has dents, rust, and scratches because it actually gets used for things that require high clearance and 4WD. Now my buddy with his Ford F350 V10 diesel quad or crew cab (I never remember which is bigger but his is the bigger one) long box 4x4 off road Eddie Bauer edition is the pavement pounding type and never gets taken where something might dent it or scratch the paint. He claims he needs it for towing his boat, but I have other friends who have a slightly smaller boat (single axle trailer for both) and seem to do just fine towing it with a Nissan Versa.
From what I have seen on the average they aren't, but when they screw up it doesn't screw up every child in the country, only part of the whole population.
I had a similar incident, but I was hit first while sitting down and was going to be hit again when I punched him as hard as I could with 1 uppercut. My attacker ended up unconscious with a broken jaw and the fight ended with that. Unfortunately my school had a zero tolerance policy and any party who threw punches the school would file 5 degree assault charges on behalf of the party on the receiving end as well as being suspended for 5 days. I ended up missing 7 days of school, 5 for suspension, 1 for having to go to court to clear my name, and a 1 to go to court for the proper prosecution of my attacker. At the time I was 17 and my attacker was 18 so I filed my own charges as legally this was an adult attacking a minor which made it worse for him. For me the worst part was the letter of "apology" I got from the fucker while he was rotting in the county jail for 3 moths where he basically tried to state that is wasn't his fucking fault for deciding to pick a fight with me and that is wasn't his fault for hitting me first. After reading that I wanted to go beat the piss out of him but this time not relent once he was subdued. Apparently this individual has been a problem for society ever since as every couple of years I get a letter requesting I provide a deposition or something like that as a former victim.
Hey dumbass did you actually know that 100% of the debt is because congress passes bills and the president signs it (or has their veto overruled) that spend more than the treasury takes in.
All joking aside the problem is really that income to the government isn't matching expenditures and each party seems to have their preferred method of solving that problem but either one will result in some portion of those in congress being voted out so our elected representatives vote in their own enlightened self interests which is to keep doing what we currently do.
So long as the same can be applied to people who use libtards, tea baggers, etc, since I don't like those terms. I don't have mod points every day and don't seem to get comments that contain those key words when I decide to meta mod so we need an automated system to make me happy. I am sure I could find some more terms that could be politically offensive and demonstrate that one is really just a political hack that should also be added.

Continuing the AC/DC theme I would have thought these would have been funnier:
"Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"
"Big Balls"
Why not just hack your own at the price point. Even if you fail and let the smoke out you won't be out much.

They might also have been referring to great tits as well.
Then there is my personal favorite BBC headline of all time:
Great tits cope well with warming
We need a link or it didn't happen.
