So you would force the virus into a MAD situation rather than face a runny nose for a day or two? I agree that policies encouraging people to work when they are sick are stupid, my employer just got took over by one. Still, the virus just wants to live the same as the human. Threatening it with destruction only encourages it to evolve to destruct.
For a while at least it might protect people but, being a living organism with a mandate to survive, the virus will evolve a way around genetic therapy too. Why not meet nature halfway instead? I'll bet it would accept survival if humans would accept a day or two of the sniffles.
Wayland isn't about networking, it's about being pretty on a single device. Perhaps in the end their efforts might be incorporated into a proper networking graphical system like X though, so I earnestly encourage them to push on with their work!
No reason to run Linux if all you are worried about is desktop performance. Why in the world would you even consider using Linux if you can't think outside your own box?
Because most users own multiple device, each of which may require their own accelerator? If Wayland is to replace X, it will need to replace all the drivers needed run on all the devices that X runs on.
So what is low level today was high level yesterday? Sure it is nice not to have to peak and poke everything, but it seems that anything above that requires buying into somebody else's idea of the way things should be done. So, in the spirit of thought and freedom, just what does "Wayland" bring to the table?
Was the British beer better than the Egyptian beer than preceded by a few millinea? In both cases the goal was to produce a product that didn't kill consumers. Those who were to drunk to brew and too poor to buy would logically have been bred out of the gene pool.
All a business is concerned about is profit, and rightly so! If a company doesn't have more money today than it yesterday it can't spend more money today than it did yesterday. Further, if it has less today than it did yesterday it can't spend any without causing risk to those who depend on it making more. Other than investing money only in and accepting the risk for doing so I don't know what else to suggest.
Just tried to access an old account I had with them, made me reset my password. Like most reasonable people I didn't want to give them any more information than necessary so got stuck when they asked for a phone number. Text on screen:
" Congratulations! You have successfully reset your new password. Never lose access to your account. "

WTF do you want Yahoo? Some way to really identify me? Come on now, you can't be anywhere as near as bad as Facebook.
So how about a system that requires registration to make it illegal to remove the rootkit? They could even make that registration database searchable so that people can decide for themselves whether or not they wish to form a contract by agreeing to the installation of a rootkit. Perhaps it could be called the "National Copyrighted Works Database" or something like that? A searchable database of things you can't copy would be good for creators as it would indicate their intent on not having their works copied, and it would be good for the people as it would provide them with them a list of content whose owners do not wish to be copied. Such a database would be a win-win and perfectly doable.
Once a thief, always a thief. I doubt that this view of a person's trustibility will change in a single generation. Kids really should be taught the importance that reputation plays on their lot in life.
Sure, for the Australians it certainly is. They have the government they chose, and it's job is to follow the will of the people that elected it. If the mood of the people there change, the government will change, and new laws more reflective of the populous will be enacted.
What alternative would you propose that allowed you to have both a stable distrubution and experiment with the bleeding edge as well? We all know that you can get just about any software to run with a./configure./make and./makeinstall....but still, what other distro do know that takes the time to ensure that everything else that worked before you executed those commands will still work after?c
So I wonder, do you thing more accidents are caused by those going below sit speed limits or those going above. it? Think this over, one day you too will live to be one of the geezers that you right now despise. What traffic laws would you propose that protect both the brash young and the conservative elderly that would protect the rights of the most people belonging to such groups?
Wouldn't better be to figure out the timing of the lights? In my area this seems to be usually about 5mph below the set speed limit. Normally I only get hit by one light out of the 9 between me and my destination if I adhere to this rule. I've come to regard the one abhorrency causing me to stop on those who exceed the speed limit, jaywalkers, and everything else that prohibits me from maintaing a steady speed without interruption.
Of course we all know there are other things in the variables such as lights that respond to emergency vehicles and such, but in the end once you realize that slowing you down is ultimate goal of most of these systems your life will be so much better when you slow down.
Seriously, I will never understand those who jackrabbit from on light to the next. Why in the world would you do that when slow and steady nearly always wins the race?
Ford's success was practically a one off. He took advantage of the times when workers were seen as mere resources by most and treated them as personell to be respected. The trend today, at least in the US, is a return to viewing workers as mere fodder for the line to profitability.

People didn't get sick or hurt on weekends 50 years ago? She knew working holidays and weekends wa part of the job when she went into the field.

Wayland is specifically for the desktop, multi-device network graphics are the least of its concerns.

True, with "X" multi device computing was an afterthought...Wayland takes it center stage. Or am I wrong?

You can blame Budweiser for that. Some of our microbrewries produce excellent beers. Anheiser/Bush just wants everyone to drink "Bud".
Was the British beer better than the Egyptian beer than preceded by a few millinea? In both cases the goal was to produce a product that didn't kill consumers. Those who were to drunk to brew and too poor to buy would logically have been bred out of the gene pool.
40 years, you?

Seriously... People would die if they didn't drink fermented beverages in antiquity.

You are an excellent driver. Let those racing to the next red light get ahead of you. Slow and steady wins the race.

Penn and Teller are full of bullshit.
Ford's success was practically a one off. He took advantage of the times when workers were seen as mere resources by most and treated them as personell to be respected. The trend today, at least in the US, is a return to viewing workers as mere fodder for the line to profitability.
It did however force the southern US states to industrialize agriculture, which provided a steady revenue stream for northern manufacturers.
