  1. Uber to the rescue! on Passengers Who Call Uber Instead Of An Ambulance Put Drivers At Risk (buzzfeed.com) · · Score: 2

I have only had to call an ambulance once in my life. The one time was for my stepdaughter who passed out and hit her head. By the time they got there, she was up and on her feet. She said she felt ok now, but they took her to the hospital anyway. The hospital is about 1/2 mile away from my apartment. The doctors said that she just got up too quick and whited out. Nothing to be concerned with and the bump on her head was not a concussion. About a month later, I got the bill. My out of pocket expense was $800 for a 2 minute ride. That was not even the the hospital bill! That was just for the ride in the ambulance! It was the first time I called an ambulance. I will never call again unless it is absolutely necessary! No wonder people call Uber!

  2. IT Hell on Ask Slashdot: What Are The Lesser-Known Roles Of The IT Department? · · Score: 1

At my job, I am in IT hell. If it has any kind of electronics, I am told it is my responsibility. I also handle the phone systems for 3 properties along with managing all the hardware, software, cabling, vendors, ordering, and pretty much anything else you can think of. I have even been asked to fix microwaves, tvs, copiers, credit card machines, surveillance equipment, etc. Definitely not what I was hired for and definitely not what I am getting paid for.

  3. It wasnt that they were publishing voter information, they posted the emails that they received over the concerns about the collection of it. It even stated right on the website: "Any member of the public wishing to submit written comments for the Commission’s consideration may do so via email at ElectionIntegrityStaff@ovp.eop.gov. Please note that the Commission may post such written comments publicly on our website, including names and contact information that are submitted." So DUH....People never read and just react. This story is just more BS.

And you thought that nothing got done in the Government...just wait and see now. New take on that old song "I was going to pass a bill, but then I got high. I was going to do work, but then I got high"... They should have legalized crack instead. At least it might motivate some people in Government.

  8. The US is screwed... on Comcast To Buy Time Warner Cable In $44.2 Billion All-Stock Deal · · Score: 2

As if Comcast being second most hated company (EA was first) wasn't bad enough, now the giant will have almost a monopoly on cable (if it is approved). Things will NOT get better with this merger, only worse since they will have almost no competition.

  11. Jail term and fine... on WW2 Vet Sent 300,000 Pirated DVDs To Troops In Iraq, Afghanistan · · Score: 1

Hold on to your seats and check to see if my math is correct. I believe there is a $100,000 fine and/or 5 years in jail per offense for illegally copying a dvd... SO...that would be $300,000 X $100,000 = $30,000,000,000.00 and/or 1.500.000 years in jail. Which would you choose? I bet even if they did get that money from the Vet, they would still claim that they lost money from piracy. The next question, can the troops or the person who received or distributed the movies be fined also?
