  1. Re:The question I would have liked to see.... on Blizzard Answers Your Questions, From Blizzcon · · Score: 1

I have to agree. Where I am, there are only two kinds of internet available: dial-up and satellite. I'm currently on satellite internet meaning I can't even play Diablo 2 with friends over the internet because all traffic that could be P2P is blocked. I have an hourly bandwidth cap. Basically it's impossible for me to play any game that requires an internet connection at home. However, I run LAN parties from time to time, usually about 6 to 8 people. How could we play Diablo 3 on my internet connection when there are 6 to 8 people connecting to my extremely limited internet?

And there's even the same problem if I were to go to a friend's place to play. Why should I be wasting their bandwidth to play with them when LAN play would be so much faster?

A lack of LAN play will definitely push me away from Diablo 3 until there's either a patch released that enables it or someone figures out a workaround.

Thanks but I'm in Canada and I can't do much when talking to reps because the connection isn't in my name.

Actually, my satellite ISP blocks all P2P traffic. That means no torrents, no DC++, etc.. I tried for weeks when I first got satellite internet (it wasn't my decision to switch from dial-up (high speed isn't available where I am) and I'm not the one paying for it) to make torrents run. They'd start to run at like 1 or 2 KB/s (or less) and then start going slower and slower until they dropped all connection with the seeds.
MSN used to sign out constantly because it's technically P2P. I use Pidgin now which doesn't disconnect as often.

To top it all off, now I'm having problems with FTP downloads. The download will start, get x% finished and then just freeze. It'll look like it's still downloading but it's not, it just sits there until you cancel the download. I've emailed my ISP about it several times and they've never answered me...

Exactly. That sort of thing is the reason I can count the number of my female friends on one hand (I'm female by the way). I'd much rather hang out with the guys where, with one exception, there isn't any drama over what someone said or did. Like you said, you just slug it out and then move on. For the most part, there aren't any grudges that last for years between any of my male friends and I.

Girls are about the backstabbing, the grudges, and the gossip. But at 13 most girls haven't realized that yet, I know I hadn't.

I'm at UNB. They start to push co-op in second year but it's optional unlike at Waterloo. I'm in my second semester of first year so I haven't looked into it too much but from what they've told us, we'll be working under P.Eng.'s and the work will count towards the 4 years. Keep in mind I'm a computer engineer, my program is almost identical to the electrical engineering program here so that might make things a bit easier. Software probably will be harder to find work under a P.Eng. but, again, it's fairly similar to the computer and electrical programs here but I don't know if that really affects anything.

Well, I never said that it'd be easy to find work under a P.Eng. right out of university. They tell us that it will be but I think that's more of a generalization across all of the disciplines. I do know that many of the co-op jobs available want EE, CMPE, or SWE and that we're promised that it will count towards the 4 years of experience.

Actually, it's 4 years before you can be called a P.Eng.. I'm currently studying, at a Canadian university, computer engineering and my boyfriend is in software engineering. He will most definitely be able to go for his P.Eng., just like I would, once we've graduated and done our 4 years under a P.Eng..
