Well I was disappointed in the demonstrated cover system. The graphics I can deal with but the game play looked a bit forced. Given their other work is so great I expect the same for SW:TOR. I basically answered the questions I had in the research I did for my response. It's a different engine made by Simutronics, hence the differences. I just really love the engine used for Mass Effect, and not just graphically, the game play is where it's at. It has elements I love from KOTR so I start to wonder why the KOTR franchise can't just use it and build on top of it.
I only say this because I really love the KOTR series and I want to love SW:TOR. But given the history of the SW game franchise and their past MMO this one really needs to hit it out of the park to win back some fans.
Oh okay. So somehow this game is going to get a whole new engine in that year? They are showing game play already and it looks like shit. Fact is they use different engines. One is visually stunning, the Unreal Engine that powers Mass Effect and it's sequel. The other is the Hero Engine developed by Simutronics which looks like shit but knowing them it scales through the roof. Simutronics is known for having massive scalability in their engines and they have a _very_ long history with MMOs.
But face it man, it's not going to look as good or play as smooth as Mass Effect in this lifetime. Now that's fine but if I was an executive it would be the first thing I ask. Why does one look so great yet the other looks just okay? Why can't we have: visually stunning, smooth game play, and massive scalability?
I have a better question. Why does Mass Effect 2 look like a movie yet SW Online looks terrible? Both from the same company. I understand limiting graphics due to performance issues but this is just insane. The game play is a joke compared to Mass Effect, let alone the new one. Check out the cover systems in both for an example of this huge discrepancy.
Thank you! And people wonder why I buy my phones outright. It's because I have the money up front. It just makes more sense. I don't want to buy a phone on the installment plan and sign myself into a contract that is slanted towards the carrier. People think I'm foolish because I'm paying more up front. But up front or in the behind, it's your choice.
Also no one can say squat when I hack the life out of it. It's MINE ALL MINE MUHAHAHA
Look, don't buy it then. It's that simple. This isn't access to a new heart they are selling, it's a cell phone and a premium one at that. Act like a grown up and read the contract then make a decision. Problem solved.
Too many "outrage" stories these days relating to luxuries and free services. Solution: Don't buy them or don't use them.
Someone grab the wheel please. The driver has fallen asleep.
I think people are becoming more aware about privacy and facebook is slow to change. How many facebook "issues" lately are over privacy? Yet they seem to discount those criticisms and continue making changes that expose their users data to people that simply do not know them.
Now sure all of this comes with a "caveat emptor" clause and these people share it all without thinking. But come on, at least make a good attempt at being responsible with your user's data.
Simple fact is Facebook makes money by sharing data with 3rd parties and they want this to continue and grow. They can ignore the writing on the wall if they want but I just got a one word to say to that: Geocities
One of my coworkers uses his enemy.org account on his resume. His reasoning is simple - he's had it for 10 years so why change. It's just funny seeing it on a resume. Such an old domain with plenty of history but alas that meme is now dead and people just give him the eyeball.
Well here's why that's tough. You can't check the email address it comes from typically because that would mean using the VRFY command, which no modern email server has enabled because it would allow spammers to simply poll an SMTP server for addresses and see if they are legit. They simply disable it or send all true responses.
The next check is DNS, verifying a mail record exists for the domain in question. Here's the problem with that. DNS can be messed up and mail will still function. Say you have a hosted domain but it lacks an mx record. Mail will still go out. So the server on the other end needs to make a choice. Throw it away or pass it through.
The article didn't explain the "rest wavelength" that was noted above in a comment. That's what I was looking for. The light has been "shifted back" to how it would appear if there was no relative movement between observer and the target galaxy.
My understanding of cosmology is at best limited, but shouldn't these galaxies appear red-shifted to the extreme? They are furthest and hence should be moving the away from us at an extremely fast pace. Is the name Ultra-blue restricted to element analysis based on spectrum? I'm just confused about the blue light.
On a more serious note: I love Google products, if only they'd market them better they'd be at the top with the iPhone easily.
Me thinks someone has been under a rock for the past year. Are you in the US? I ask that seriously because Android is everywhere here. Pick a network, they have an Android phone. Even AT&T is supposedly getting one based on the Moto Cliq.
If your job title doesn't have manager in it, you are a red shirt. Just an expendable enlisted man. Know your place and it will flow well. Tell the officers they are full of shit and can't do their own job. Well now that's a problem.
It took me 10+ years to realize I was a red shirt. Not much has changed since then except my attitude. I'm "better" now.
I'll go back even further. PERL was once touted as the newness but in the web world it had issues scaling. Most things had issues scaling back then so it wasn't a surprise. But look now, one would be hard pressed to say PERL is slow. Now that eventually went to PHP, and then to Ruby, and Python. The simple fact is it's more about handling requests, ie writing server software like fastcgi or apache mod_x modules, then the actual language implementation itself. Ruby is at this spot right now. The problem is this isn't the "good old days", like PERL in it's golden age, and there are good alternatives to Ruby so it may be losing some steam. But just like PERL it's not the language itself, but the platform it runs on ("Rails is a Ghetto").
It's a bullshit analogy. Brick layers work side by side on a wall. One cannot move up without the other moving up a row.
I know this because most of my family is in masonry and I was slated to be in it too, before I got a cushy desk job. A mason's work is based on two things: speed and accuracy. Both combined make a good brick layer. If you only have one you have a problem.
Same goes for programming IMHO. I regularly sit back with my older brother and talking about how the two careers are similar.
I almost stopped reading when he said Joel Spolsky.
Joel is always looking down his nose at other coders who don't have degrees from MIT. Yet he thinks pointers are the ultimate test of a programmer. He has written one tool that is of note - Fogbugz. That is, if he even wrote the code.
He just reeks of "I know better". He wrote his own language to code-gen classic ASP applications, along with PHP. Right there is a red flag. Did they move to the new ASP.net platform? Nope. That wasn't good enough I guess. No they decided to stick with classic ASP and write a language that outputs both ASP and PHP. Epic arrogance combined with ignorance IMHO.
Then look at Fogbugz. It's just a typical bug tracking application. That's it. Did it need a new language? Hardly. So now these guys wasted all that time on something only they can use and it makes zero dollars. Way to go. Real top notch development there. Fact is his company is small potatoes.
Why do I rant on Joel? Because this guy is believing the shit he spouts and extrapolating from it. Frankly I'm sick of hearing from him about what makes a good programmer. If you aren't a good programmer yourself then STFU about what makes a good programmer. Writing a few insignificant applications doesn't make you a rock star.
No the writer is pissed because those terms are linking to bogus result pages. If they were legit terms and the results directed to actual items then it would be a win for target and everyone else. But they are spamming the search and as a whole search results get muddied for everyone. It's a legit complaint IMHO. I want real results, not spammed links.
I noticed. But where on earth did you find that helmet shaped like a wookie head from? ..Oh snap, that's not a helmet. My bad!
Also dude, the preferred nomenclature is vaginal-space challenged.
Psh I don't need a video out. That's just more bloat!
ENHANCE!
I just creep angry phone call based all over myself.

HILARIOUS!
What language do you code in?

Cool, let it bug you somewhere else then. Here's your pink slip..
Seriously though, the guy needs to just buck up and wear the shirt. I would wear a clown suit for what they pay me.

No further investigation is done
And none should be. They're a potential customer buying IP addresses and hosting, not automatic weapons.
Pretty soon we're gonna be so "secure" it's gonna take an act of congress take a piss.
