  1. Class action lawsuit on Microsoft Eyes PC Isolation Ward To Thwart Botnets · · Score: 1

Instead, how about a class action lawsuit against MS for all this nonsense? (ya ya..I know...eula says they can abuse me..but just sayin!) For the all the sys admins who have worked all night to fix infected servers..over and over. For all the customers who waited for the sys admins to fix their infected servers. For all the money spent on nonsense like anti virus programs, spybot cleaners and malware removers that don't work. For all the businesses who spend millions and endure downtime during insane repetitive patching that never ends, and never will end. For all the people who had to deal with a infected home PC by enlisting Geek Squad geeks or others, over and over. For all the computer geeks who continually get called to family and friends houses to fix infected windows PC's At even 10$ per hour spent on all this nonsense worldwide, you could instead feed all the hungry on the planet and have money left over. Are we so accustomed to this insanity that everyone has given up and just accepts this status quo? Is there no one else, but me, who feels this way ?

  2. Fluke scopemeter on Oscilloscopes For Modern Engineers? · · Score: 1

I picked up a good used Fluke 105 scopemeter on ebay with a bunch of goodies (cables, probes, etc) for under $600. Use the rest of your dough to buy yourself a smt hot air system and a signal generator. I would stay well clear of any PC based scopes.

  3. For now....its easy on Which Linux For Non-Techie Windows Users? · · Score: 1

Ubuntu is a safe bet for now. (though quality of the product is slowly moving in the wrong direction IMHO) Debian "testing" is a close 2nd. Suggest adding VirtualBox and re-installing any XP License that they may own..just in case they have a small need. Also, since you will be supporting them I suspect bit..set up a reverse SSH command, so they can hit your system for when you need to access their system. (you do have a static IP right? ) :-) regards js

  4. Irrelevant..they are. on Are All Bugs Shallow? Questioning Linus's Law · · Score: 1

Like they know anything about finding or fixing Bugs...Puuleeze. I take anything I hear from Redmond as complete BS, Except for news of Ballmers termination/resignation..at that point, I go ALL-IN on their stock.

  5. Redundant firewalls? on Crazy Firewall Log Activity — What Does It Mean? · · Score: 1

Just a guess. Stripes are caused by either a redundant firewall arrangement, or redundant feeds to the internet, where the load balancer (or telco) is moving traffic one way or the other.. Simple enough to reverse out your own IP..no need to outsource that part. Lastly, you are working with a small sample size, (no more than a few hundreds of packets per line) so any small change appears larger.

haha..probably right on..I came from the outside, now I work in county govt going on 7 years. I have more knowledge in my little finger than 99 net-sys admins / network engineers picked at random who are working inside the county govt. CLUELESS! No excuse for getting yourself arrested thou... maybe not too late for "I forgot the password" as a defense. Any ideas how to clean up these laggards? Its our freekin tax money down the drain!!
