I did. And I watch Bill get bated, and fall for it nearly every time. Creationists have well thought out arguments. They know what to say/ask, they know what the sciency types will say to rebut (they are all too predictable) and then they know exactly what to say to flummox them.

Intelligent design is the idea that "The world or universe" were created by god (that includes us) "Creation" in the bible is all things, everywhere. Read Genesis (yes, I actually have) it's clearly about creating the universe/world. Nothing said there-in denies evolution in the least.

  4. meh on Functional 3D-Printed Tape Measure · · Score: 3, Insightful

I like the caliper better. But really... the 3D printer folks need to stop printing things that clearly wont work well once they are 3D printed. For example, he's copied an existing tape measure... a device that has existed and has worked very well for well over a century. It's been perfected to the point that you can now buy one for less than a dollar just about anywhere. I'd think he should design an entirely new tool that does the same job but better... taking into account the limitations and advantages of the medium he's working in.

I'm interested in 3D printing but I'm still unimpressed with the quality of the material it prints. When they get better, higher temperature plastics, or even some sort of metal alloy, I'll be a lot more interested. And yes, I'm aware there are $50k+ machines that can do that, but I mean machines for home use.

Actually, I think there might be merit in your idea. We had a similar thing happen with one of our ticketing systems. Thousands of vanished tickets... They weren't even on the tables anymore! Oh no! Then we found them on some random table (there are thousands in the DB) and apparently, over 10 years ago, someone had conceived of the idea that something could go wrong, and instead of strait up deleting rows the system was throwing the deleted rows onto this "archive" table. The code that broke it was someone on another teams fault, but whomever wrote this way back in the day saved us a hell of a lot of trouble.

Most of the year we have our normal work and what-not... and most of our full-time employees are from the US or were temps that were damn good so we hired them and they may have emigrated here from wherever (usually India/Russia) but they're a part of the team now... But then every 6 months to a year upper management gets their panties in a knot and need "The migration project done in 3 months!!!!" and so we go to a temp agency and they, of course, provide a bunch of H1-B's who are mostly from India... and honest are probably a lot better than a lot of us are at what they do, and we get the project done. They leave and we're all better for it.

If we actually hired for these sprint projects we'd like end up in a constant Hiring and layoff cycle that I would not find comfortable at all. Ok, I don't know what it's like to work at a huge software company like Google/Microsoft or whatever... our IT/IS is under 200 people at its peak. But I can't imagine most of the country is run much differently. The Google type of organization to me is a more of an anomaly than a norm.

Yea, but Bill Bye fell into the same trap all sciency types do. He didn't argue evolution, he argued against the creationists idea of Intelligent design. There is nothing incompatible with Intelligent design and evolution. If there is a God that created the universe then, that God also created evolution and therefor science is simply discovering Gods work. He should have made that point and left it at that. You can't invalidate theology with logic. But you can validate science with it. Evolution is a fact. If you believe in god then evolution is his work, stop denying Gods work you pagan.

They're so intense about climate change they think exaggeration and outright lies are acceptable to achieve their goals. If both sides of the argument are tainted, the the general public will just throw up their hands in confusion and get no-where. Despite what many people may think, Jonh-q-public does notice when everyone from one side of an argument ends up being proven wrong eventually while the other side has never done anything but inform him. This is why the majority of the public trusts in science now rather than superstition. If you vehemently believe in climate change, the get the facts... the real facts. Educate and enlighten people. You'll do more for your cause than Al Gore ever did.
