"the day after" was not made-for-tv. it was in the theatres. i grew up 20 mins from Lawrence, the town that is depicted in the movie. I remeber people talking about being freaked out when they came out of the theaters and Lawrence was still standing.

side note-my father was a fireman at an industrial airport at the time and went to an open casting call for that movie. he got called back twice and turns out he was auditioning for the part of Airman McCoy, i think.

hmmm..looks to me like i am aware of what a budget is. however you didn't seem to read the rest of my post about what is really worth more in the end.

your comment and others about real world testing sparked a quetion to me.

why don't they send stuff to the moon first to test it in a more realistic mission setting, that way if it does go wrong or bugs turn up we can at least retrieve it easily(compared to Mars) and fix it, then try again until it has beeter results?

i'm sure cost of doing such a thing is a major factor, but wouldn't the end results be worth so much more?

i was at a buddies house one night and the phon rang, here's what i heard...

...mmm hhhmmm.....mmhh...mmmm hmmm....no we got goats...yeah we got goats and they eat the carpet so e don't need them cleaned....

along the same lines this freinds number used to belong to Stacey and Charles, people called all the time for them. we eventually just start playing off like we were them to people. once the phone rang freind answers: "charles? yeah hang on.."

hands the phone over too me. "this is chuck!"

some dude"chuck???...uuhh...i just wanted to thank you for getting me that money..."

me"oh yeah about that....i'm gonna need some of that back...."

    dude:"wha-huh?"

me:"yeah, i'm on my way out actually i just stop by ok? later."

i wish i could have seen his face.

ok, i've played all the Quakes, SoF, nreal, UT etc....but blasting bad guys with weapons such as the BMFG, plasma ray, razorjack or the microwave-pulse gun, or whatever it is in SoF is no where near as real as games like Rainbow6 and Rogue Spear. i mean come on. sitting in a bell tower with a Dragunav and seeing the whites of your targets eyes before you squeeze the trigger?? i would think that would lead more people to worry about their kids getting desensitized to violence and pull another Columbine.

i was thinking the same thing. when did these guys forget that with out the "metal underground" of the early '80's and fans copying and trading tapes like baseball cards is the ONLY reason they made it anywhere. they even talk about it on there VH1 special thingy. "people with metallica patches on ther jackets with their backs turned on the supporting band giving them the finger". these are the same fans that had dubbed copies of "NO life...". i still have one in a box somewhere. as well tapes of the first three records. maybe if people started e-mailing, writing letters to these "artists" (lars and co., Dr. Dre) saying "...while i have no .mp3's of your music, i am destroying all records, tapes and CD's purchased.." "...you won't be recieving any more airtime on our station..." (insert obligatory comment/argument/rant about how the bands don't make money off records sales anyway here)

"Even if they get only $1/CD, and a "mildy" successful band manages to sell 250,000 cd's that's decent money for a 5 person band." as someone who has played in bands for the last ten years i can tell you THAT IS NOT GOOD MONEY!! even for a SOLO act. what most poeple don't realize is when a band makes a record they get an advance(loan) from the label. then they get another advance to buy new gear with, to go on tour. know how much it costs to RENT a tour bus per week? anywhere between $5-$30K. that's right, PER WEEK!! guess where all that money to pay back the label comes from? album sales!! by the time everone takes "their cut" from the $13.99 at Best Buy the band still OWES $$$$. the music industry sucks and is a hard business to get into. and it's even harder when you get out because your label drops you, because Clive (ARISTA) "doesn't hear a radio single" on the demos for the second record. remember all that moeny they gave you to play rock star with?? you still owe it back to them. so you get your job at the GAP or wherever and make payments to them!! sounds like fun huh? granted there are a few bands that have "made their own" FUGAZI, Rollins...but they work harder than anyone will ever know. I saw both bands several times in the past few years. they both rolled up in 3-10 year old vans with a trailer hauling their gear. no bus, no satelite TV, no Playstation. don't generalize musicians that do it for the love of music and performing by saying we all do it for $$$. I have spent almost $40,000 on bass equipment in the last 5 years. i've made probably $2,000 from using it in a band. and i wouldn't have it any other way. sure i'd love to have someone paying me money to drive around the world and play music, but i also know that since i don't play "commercially viable" music that won't happen anytime soon. hence i deal with moron users all day.
