The problem with projects when the Govt is involved is this.
It is TAX PAYER money that is paying for it. So, people tend to take their time shall we say, when doing the project. In otherwords, when it is NOT your money at risk, rather tax payer money, there is no risk. If it were an investors money or YOUR money, you would monitor very closely the project and not let it drag on and on, no matter what the excuse is. Pretty simple concept to understand.
In 1995 Bill Gates wrote a panic email to his top execs titled, "Internet Tidal Wave"... why did he write this? Because, he knew that one day the browser could go full screen and become the operating system capable of playing games and complex software. This threatened Microsoft's bottom line on all levels.
Now, it seems his worse nightmares are coming true. Microsoft tried to stop it, but was only able to slow it down. By destroying Netscape by putting it out of business before netscape and java was able to get too big. But, as things turned out, you can not stop the inevitable. Google plays to release an Operating system soley based on a web browser. The web browser capable of running native code with the power of Open GL for graphics and the framework to develop sophisticated applications.
I have been waiting for this day... although I saw it coming years ago, when Google co-oped with Web GL and began NaCl (native client)...
I am not saying that another Earth is not possible.
In fact, I know there is one. The universe is infinitely huge, so the math says so.
What I am trying to say is that so far it is the ONLY planet we know of. We will not be traveling to any planets anytime soon. It takes light years to get to the nearest star. And the nearest star may not have planets.
Planet Earth may not be rare but it is very far to the next one. And no, Worm holes are not proven to exist. And if worm holes do exist there is no way to travel through one.
There is a chance we can travel near the speed of light and time will nearly stop, allow us to possibly get to distance places a possibility. Or even freezing our bodies in suspended animation. but, again, the technology is not there yet and may not be if ever.
To just assume there is another Earth and we can get there, is being incredibly niave and arrogant. Earth is our only home and may never be another one. To assume otherwise is complete egocentric nonsense.
Now if only people, including Scientists of all fields, would realize that Heaven already exists and anyone that is alive is living in it. It is called planet EARTH.
No other place in the known universe has such a perfectly tuned atmosphere, able to support intelligent life. Let alone any type of life. Below is a list of traits the Earth has, which are rare, yet essential for life to spawn and be sustained.
1) A large moon to make stable the earths rotation (seasons), make oceans slosh which is said to have helped stir up the primordial soup to create chemical life. 2) A magnetosphere. Most planets/moons do not have one. Without one the atmosphere would blow away due to solar wind from the sun. Mars as an example. 3) In the goldie locks zone. Only Earth and Mars are known to exist in one, keeping water as a liquid. Not too close or far from the sun. 4) Orbiting a fairly stable Star called the SUN. Most stars are too large and burn out too fast. 5) Calm solar system, with very few cosmic impacts from comets/asteroids, allowing life to evolve and thrive in time for us to create anti-asteroid technology. 6) Earth is not too large or too small. If too small will cool down too fast and loss it's molten core and hence Magnetic Field. Example is Mars. 7) Jupiter did not ignite into a star. (Did not have enough mass) Yet, jupiter is large enough to vacuum up many objects that could have hit the Earth and killed us. 8) Large amounts of H20, carbons, Nitrogen, Iron, etc. Life needs a nice mix of elements to create an Atmosphere and life. Missing a key element and life would not be. 9) Solar system not too close to other stars/clusters to avoid Super Nova's and other hazardous stars which could kill us all. 10) Pure chance that anything else I missed that Earth has going for it to allow life to Evolve and invent technology to allow Internet and myself to type to YOU.
Now, you tell me if Earth is not a Heaven? Tell me that all of these things are not extremely good things to have happened to Earth and whether or not you think we are damn lucky yo even be alive. If not, you need to seriously consider looking into science more and learning about all the amazing things the Earth has going for it to allow you to exist at all.
We are all in Heaven as far as I am concerned. It was in front of our face the whole time, if one only puts down the ego and learns about these things.
The main stream news STILL does not want to admit that cyber 'terror' (like the attacks on twitter, facebook and in S. Korea) were conducted via WINDOWS zombie computers, as part of a segment of the greater BOTNET.
There is only ONE reason why they may not want to admit Microsoft Windows allows BOTNETS and that is MONEY.
If the mainstream media where to announce that all of Microsoft Windows computers have a major security flaw that can only be fix properly by rewritting the Kernel and File system permission design, would potentially seriously hurt the Economy. Think about all the people that would stop shopping Online... it is actually better 'economically' to just let cyber criminals phish away and get all our credit card numbers and steal some poor souls identity, than to cause mass hysteria.
The 'over all' economy is not corrupted. It is individual parts or it or major parts (like the loans and mortgages scandel ).
Wall Street is also a motivator or corruption. For instance, a publicly traded company having as CEO and members of the board owning stock shares will do anything to make those stock rise. People that literally have NOTHING to do with a company can invest money ( buy stock ) and make noise about when the stock value goes down? This is retarded.
Wall street traders, trying to make money with nothing more than trading money encourages more corruption than it seems to help. If a company goes public, it means it is already at a favorable size and profitable. The ONLY reason to IPO is purely for greed.
If a business needs capital, it should land a Loan from a bank or goto Venture Capitalists. NOT do the same or similar with Wall Street Stocks.
A perfect example is the LAME excuse that America's Health Insurance companies use to explain why they cheat and lie is because of 'Share Holder Pressure' to make the stock go up. This motivation is based on pure GREED to raise the stock, NOT motivation to increase value or good.
If you ask me, I think 'Day trading' should be stopped. But, it's too late for any of that now. The economy is tied to Wall Street and the world, globally.
MAYBE by some miracle the idea of a stock market and Day traders could be made good, but honestly I can not find anything to support it.
Microsoft will always rule the 'users' as long as 'Enterprises' (corporations and business oriented groups) are also ruled. If Microsoft has another interation of companies refusing to upgrade on Mass, it could seriously hurt MS's grip on the OEM's.
The problem, is that if Enterprises DO embrace Se7en and finally give in and upgrade BILLIONS of computer hardware, then MS has nothing to fear in respect to OEM and 'users' opting for Apple or some Linux Distro.
BUT, if Enterprise refuse to upgrade (this includes upgrading their hardware too as well as the software, will force MS to keep XP shipping and patches coming. Else if they try to force Fortune 1000 corps with potential viruses and exploits in Windows XP (due to not supporting XP anymore) could tip them to en Mass say, "Screw MS" (because let's face it, the Global Economy is not getting better, despite what you see on Wall Street).
It is entirely in the Enterprise's hands whether or not MS will go threw another Iteration failure ( and upgrade failure ) and more market loss to Apple and Linux.
The user's will install whatever HP and Dell decide to use, which will obviously be Windows 7, because they too want to sell new modern hardware.
So, in a sense, Windows 7 will most likely be adopted anyways, because there are profits to be made both for OEMs and Microsoft.
Not to mention, Windows 7 learned from the Linux on Netbooks (oh sh*t scare) because Vista simply could not be installed on them. Windows 7 can and also gets rid of all the annoyances like the pop up security notices and such.
The favor is highly in Microsoft's. With enough advertising and marketing, anyone can be sold. Maybe even in a failed Global Economy.
Google Frame may or may not make IE more or less secure. I would support that Google Frame makes IE no less insecure than it already is.
What MS is REALLY concerned about, is not the security. Ha, when has MS really been scared of botnets and malware?
No, the REAL reason is that Google Chrome and up coming Google OS plans to allow programmers to make 3D games, mult-media softeware (photoshop, audition, 3dsmax,,,etc) and ANY OTHER type of application that would normally be only available to applications programmed and run on as a native EXE binary.
What Google is trying to do, is make the platform (Mac, Linux Windows) irrelevant, by allowing the Browser to become so powerful and flexible, that is does not matter what OS you run. This effectively threatens Microsofts #1 cash cow, WINDOWS.
You can blame MS for deciding to attack Google with BING... now Google is responding in full force. Google does NOT want to die out and allow BING to take out Google and it's Search market share.
So, it is war. And Chrome OS is Googles weapon. (It started with Google Docs, than Gears, now Google Native Client)
Bind DNS is full of security problems, is bloated and the configuration is overly complicated.
Has anyone ever tried TinyDNS? It's creator isnt the most cooperative guy when it comes to Debian standards in terms of binary locations and therefore Debian refuses to add it to their repository.
But, one can compile and use it yourself. It has never been DNS cache poisoned, it has never been hacked at all. In fact there is a reward for anyone that can.
I think a lot of people fail to see the coincidences of this.
1) MS announces BING 2) Founder of Google personally leads a team to investigate and potentially retaliate. (MS just HAS to get into EVERYONE's business) 3) Google Chrome and OS is announces, officially. 4) WebGL is announced. 5) Google Native Client is being heavily developed and will be the core of WebGL use.
It is a war folks. a Tech war. MS is trying to take more search market shares with the Yahoo/Bing deal. Google is not going to tolerate this, as it is a DIRECT threat to Googles AD business. (Bing actually has a crap ton od marketing behind it and is gaining market share fast.)
Google is not playing Mr. Nice guy to MS anymore.
Welcome to Google OS... while many think this will just be a Linux kernel running Chrome and using the WEB for web apps... Google is also doing some key things.
1) Improving Kernel Linux ( remember the null pointer exploits found? Everyone was wondering, what is Google doing hiring top grade Black hat hackers to look for vulnerabilities in the kernel? To get it ready for world domination is WHY!!!
Google is also going to write 'from scratch or maybe' a new X server, as the current one has problems... it will make X.org work the way everyone wanted it to... with millions in money and research, google can afford a rewrite, than release it all as Open Source, like they have already done with CHROME and Native Client.
2) Chrome Browser/OS has been in the works for a while, and MS responds with BING, but Google only exclutes the situation with announcing an OS as well.
3) WebGL is MORE than just a replacement for flash.
WebGL + Google native Client allows 3d gaming, they also mention in Google 'Talk Videos' that you will be able to make full fledged Multi Media Products (hint hint... another PhotoShop, 3dsmax, Audition (formerly Cool Edit Audio Editing ) and games.
What does this all mean?
It means Google OS. It means that safari, opera and Chrome OS ( Firefox will follow ) have more market share than Microsoft.
The browser has shown ( and MS has known this since the famous MS internal email 'INTERNET TIDAL WAVE' written by Bill Gates in 1995 in response to the Netscape/Java platform emergence ) is a direct THREAT to MS as a platform.
The Open Source will soon have their own version of Direct X ( called OpenGL or WebGL ) BTW. openGL standard has come a LONG way in a SHORT mount of time to catch up with Direct X and supporting Shader Model 1,2,3 and beyond... this is become google and apple are supporting it for the new OS take over.
The Google OS with Browser will beable to BY PASS Microsoft... the Internet Tidal wave has HIT. THe only reason Netscape failed, was because it's revenue source was the Browser, MS was able to cut that 'artery' with a quickness. But, Google does not make money with anything by ADs, which MS can not touch. They can not STOP google in any way shape or form from going what Netscape tried to do 15+ years ago...
BING is pissing Google OFF and now its game over.
To learn more google for the following topics and read carefully...
1) google native client (watch the videos) 2) google os 3) WebGL (kronos group) an all open source affiliation group 4) Bing triggers google response
Google Native client will be platform independant. which means you can run it all in Apple, Windows and Linux... Google's claim is that it wants full reach for their Ads,as the Web has already become platform independant.
Google OS will be OPEN SOURCES, FREE and no worries of vendor lock in.... of course there are people that think Google has gotten too big and a data hog... but at least the OS will be Open Sources.
Gone will be the days of BOTNETS, which threaten ecommerce... Google is partnering with everyone NOT Microsoft... which equates to one thing... more Ads for Google...and a NEW OS paradigm for the worldd.
yes, javascript right now is a but slow.. but in recent times it has seen a
The only way to even to begin to ''clean the internet up'' is to admit to the mass media, that Microsoft Windows is the problem.
Zombie computers, sending spam, and infecting other machines is the problem. You can not trace the BotNET as the BotNET is everywhere, therefore NO where. I f if you could have some ginnie pig Luser as bail... you will just be lead to another BOT in the BotNet... a never ending MAZE of Proxy Botnets... not to mention the TOR project, which allows anyone to hide their IP Address.. Im sure the hackers use TOR a lot.
Also, recently, ABC did a segment on the Twitter, Facebook, Whitehouse.gov and other DDoS attacks, and how it could happen. the BotNET was mentioned, but do to having to be Politically Correct' no one mentioned the 'W' word. WINDOWS.
Peopple have been FIRED from their jobs for admitting that microsoft windows is the #1 bringer of SPAM, Phishing which is how all the hackers get credit cards to them make money with Spam.
Some have commented that you think deeply, you know how things really work, and you get depressed.
But, that sort of depression is temporary, as your brain is able to release Oxytocin and correct itself. Those that do not release enough Oxytocin feel more pain and are more sensitive to things, so get depressed, and stay depressed for longer. While those that produce the chemical for the brain to rebound and cope faster.
If you as a child grew up in a bad situation, like abuse and so forth, may become depressed. Depression is inner rage, while others extroverted will rag out on the world and on others, instead on themselves.
On the other hand, like another commenter has states, there is no real proof of which came first. It's a chicken and an egg problem.
The more information you have, the more powerful you are.
Plain and simple... Google wanting to quantify everything from Planet Earth (Google Earth), to the Internet (this includes indexing all sites including wikipedia which is a massive store house of human Knowledge ).
You can then govern this knowledge how you like... Google HAS worked with the US government in regards to Terrorists and definetely the horrible child porn... do you think Google did so without a 'Fee'? At least Administrative fees.
Google if allowed to archive everything, even Tangible Items, like paper books, just Adds to the sum total Knowlege power house.
There is also an effort to convert old cassette and other old recordings into text, which can then be search able.
Google of course has already indexed this information, which can be sold to Lawyers.
Google needs competition, no doubt.
Google may be 'good' (as we can tell) right now... but money corrupts absolutely at some point.
This is the same concept as BitTorrent...where you spread the load out to anyone downloading the software. BitTorrent uploads the parts you downloaded, therefore spreading the load to the clients.
1) Bittorrent is already getting a lot of black listing from major cable companies, because people are downloading DVD movies and not paying for them using pay-per-view.
2) ISPs do not allow a home user to set up a web server and will block or ban your account if it finds port 80 or http/https (amoung others as well like ftp excessively used)
3) how is your browser going to access a Database like mysql with php, local on your machine? The pages would have to be cached and static or some other wizard way of doing it.
I am by no means saying that the idea isnt possible or even not a good idea. It sounds like a nice idea... however too many factors are at play, including co-location centers and the notion of a 'server' itself being discounted in favor of a 'super browser'.
The only reason this subject has come up is to try to combat DDoS attacks. Twitter and Facebook and the whitehouse.gov attacks.
No, what needs to happen is to get rid of the Microsoft Windows ZOMBIE botnet computers, which allow the DDoS attacks to happen with greater ease and frequency.
I believe you missed my point and how IRONIC it is that Linux (their #1 'threat' is the one that bailed them out of a complete failed way of building an OS)
It is Ironic in that, Linux SAVED Microsoft's business... by unknowningly taking care of the 'Netbook to inntroduce Linux to the masses', by making Windows 7 run sanely on reasonable hardware requirements.
MS internal is NOT accredited with seeing past their own mistakes.
Did you know that the ONLY reason why Windows 7 was 'trimmed down' (ram, cpu and resource hog that Vista was)... was simply BECAUSE of Linux running on NetBooks?
It is well known fact, that internal to MS, and to the top executives there, that they did not think Vista had ANY issues at all. Why do you think they spend all those MILLIONs of dollars on Mojave and the silly SienField commercials? They actually THOUGHT it was PUBLIC perception problem, not a technical one.
It was not until the massive influx of the Netbooks, running Linux, that MS went 'Oh SH*T' we better do something. So, they HAD to make Win7 run on a Netbook.
THIS and mostly only this, (seriously) was the reason for the 'trimming of the fat' and the rest was MASSIVE investment into WHY people hated vista. Hense, why the security popups are now GONE.
Just remember, MS does not innovate... they simply copy others or react to negative things. If it were not for LINUX...MS would STILL be pushing out retarded Mojave ADs and others...
Remember, that even tho Intel is huge, the ARM chip set is nothing INTEL should ignore. So, saying it is cutting into their profits, well ARM can replace ATOM in a heart beat. SO, I honestly think 'market forces' are at work here.
Remember, the point ( and conciquently the actually name ) of a Netbook means SMALL in every way... portable. Laptops of 10+ inches are much more bunky and the only reason you know need a bigger screen, really, is for gaming and whatever we all do on a Laptop. ( play EVE on my laptop... I know a Netbook would be utterly useless in that regard. )
No, the Netbook is a Netbook and NOT a laptop for a reason. SIZE. Also remember that adding just 2 inches is based on cross diagonal size, not width. So adding 2 more inches is actually adding much more overall size.
To say that quality journalism is being tainted by all these 'damn bloggers' and damn 'forum posters' (hey, slashdot, this include you) is a very ignorant remark.
Granted, there is A LOT of crap blogs and forums out there. But, it is not hard to simply dismiss them. Most of the bad ones are so bad, no one uses them, hense never grow large enough to enter into the Popular Massively Media's mind (aka the people in general).
In fact, quite the opposite is true. In that, some of the most informative and insightful knowledge that I have learned, came from non-profit, your run of the mil, Joe Blogger and poster. ( Such as myself. )
just because you are not paying big money for journalists to write about stuff, does not make them stupid... In fact, not being tied to any one company, therefore having to be Politically Correct and Bias, is not a worry if you are indepant, running your own successful news site ( like slash dot does ) and making some money from Adverts.
This Murdok guy, is rich beyond belief. He lost to Facebook, maybe for a reason. And to critisize the internet and it's people, which is the very business he is in, make him even MORE ignorant.
Microsoft, anti competive? Wow... like we all did not know this?!
In all seriousness, this is GOOD to keep the pressure and public awareness on what is going on. Even if we all have to hear about it 100's of times quarterly. The public and governments MUST be made aware that MS sucks.
The only company to blame for the 'botnet' and the sending of all the spam via 'zombie computers' is Microsoft. Windows, as we all know, is a virus haven. Attempts for AVG and Microsoft's own anti-malware software has helped, but has not stopped.
The 'success stories' in raiding and taking down a couple botnet groups is no success story. They simply open shop somewhere else.
The internet has grown SO HUGE and so global, that no amount of 'man power' in terms of police force, like a friken 'special ops' force will do any good, what do ever. All it will result in are law suits for privacy invasion. Also, what about countries like Russia, where most of the botnet lives? The US or UK can not touch them, legally, what so ever.
So, the solution?
Microsoft needs to be held accountable, and redesign the core of windows to stop all the zombies... alas... good luck with that.
Yes having many browsers is good for the web, as it helps to keep it standards complaint. (All browsers generally follow the standards, as opposed to Internet Explorer).
But, there is the issue, that goes deeper, than just a Browser. Google was build using Open Source. Firefox was saved, by the Open Source 'movement'. Firefox is/was the very SYMBOL that showed Open Source does work and IS a viable alternative to evil Microsoft, and Google was there to help Firefox, knowing that it (google) too used the same software dev model. Now google comes out and delivers their OWN browser? This in effect is a DIRECT COMPETITIVE move AGAINST the interests of Firefox and Mozilla. Mozilla's only real product is Firefox.
Point being, when a company gets too large, they start to get massive pressure from their STOCK SHAREHOLDERS, which in my opinion, makes businesses extra cut throat, in order to continue to GROW PROFITS and the stock. Google, it appears WANTS CONTROL over the web, due to the fact, without a browser, Google is NOTHING. However, Firefox has done NOTHING to harm Google, and now Google slaps mozilla in the face with a product to DIRECTLY COMPETE with an Open Source Icon (firefox)?
This my friends, makes the beginning of the end of the Google Goodness and a new era into slowly, but surely, google becoming 'evil'.
The fact that we are even posting about this, ALL OVER THIS WEB, this IBM/Ubuntu deal, is AMAZING.
IBM is no company to laugh about. After all they have been in the computing business well before Microsoft or most any if any at all IT company has.
IBM may be expessive, but no more so that MS, and IBM has massive support resources and obviously a warm feeling to sooth corp chair's and CEO and CIO's about the longevity of deploying a Linux Desktop.
The saving will be MASSIVE. Here is why.
1) Open Office FREE (savings of untold amounts)
2) Web servers, ftp, app servers, centralize management tools... all of this is open source. puppetD from http://reductivelabs.com/
3) free mail, Postfix, Dovecot and MySQL (no more exchange licenses)
4) Free Dev tools for ISVs, Eclipse, KDev and GTK tool kits. NO MORE MS Visual Studio License Frees!
5) Free firewalls, NO MORE viruses, and malware worries.
6) Class A security, like tls, ssl3, SSH and GPG GPG, the list goes on and on.
7) AND BEST OF ALL.. NO MORE WINDOWS Licenses! Use Ubuntu (Desktop) and Redhat/Ubuntu for servers... guess what? ALL FREE
If corps are worried about retraining or certs, many MANY MANY Open Source companies have such training, REDHAT is one, OpenLogic another... and anyone with 1/2 a brain in the use of Open Source can get FREE support on the mailing lists.
My God, I run a few.coms and make some money, all running Linux. I refer to online open comminuty for help from time to time, as well as, offer consulting FREE in return for the support they gave me.
People are going to JAIL for speaking their minds? In a blogging sense, this only clarifies that the Internet Blogosphere is being taken seriously.
The ones in jail are probably blogging about anti-government related things, probably in countries where people are actually being killed. In countries like the middle-east, cuba or other very rough climated countries.
But, the average blogger in UK. US, Australia and etc, blogging about how microsoft vista SUX, do not fit in this category.
So, fear not bloggers, oh and BLOG ON.
Microsoft's number 1 competitor is the INTERNET.
People can now inform the rest of us, even non-savvy computer users, of alternatives and why they should switch -- or at least have a look at what else is out there.
People are FED UP with viruses, and getting credit cards and passwords and all kinds of sensitive personal data stolen. The media is blaming Microsoft for not patching ( or unable ) the security holes in their Browser and Operating system.
People do not want bloat, blink and marketing shoved down their thoats, any longer. The economic crisis is proof of this. If you have seen microsoft's latest Adverts, ( which basically do NOTHING to convince anyone to switch to Vista for Businesses ) is a COMPLETE failure compared to MAC BookPro's toting Recycled, power efficient GREEN notebooks, which hits on target for a GREAT selling point. MS continues to miss the target with all of their Adverts (across the board)
Because, of the Blogosphere, people can talk about products before buying them. They can read the horror stories of credit phishing, viruses, or read groklaw.net and see all the law suites against Microsoft.
Microsoft was all powerful BEFORE THE INTERNET. But, Microsoft can no longer 'hide behind lyes' as the truth now gets out, for all to share. Perfect example is VISTA and BOTNETS that infest WINDOWS machines.
The INTERNET allows any one to freely download alternative OS's like any of the 500+ Linux Distros. Admins are more and more recommending to their companies, If you want to save in costs, use a FREE Operating System.
The Internet is starting to make computing on the 'CLOUD' using Google Docs and ability to easily download a FREE word, spread, and presentation suite for FREE.
The Internet truely is Microsoft's worse enemy. If not for the Internet, Microsoft could continue away and extorting others, forcing unlawful OEM deals based on fear. But, now they can not. Why? THE INTERNET exposes them. The new Media of the new Millenium called the INTERNET is changing every bodies views.
Slowly but surely, software will become more and more commoditized and competition will be fierce.

1) MS announces BING
2) Founder of Google personally leads a team to investigate and potentially retaliate. (MS just HAS to get into EVERYONE's business)
3) Google Chrome and OS is announces, officially.
1) google native client (watch the videos)
2) google os
3) WebGL (kronos group) an all open source affiliation group
4) Bing triggers google response
You can not trace the BotNET as the BotNET is everywhere, therefore NO where. ... you will just be lead to another BOT in the BotNet... a never ending MAZE of Proxy Botnets... not to mention the TOR project, which allows anyone to hide their IP Address.. Im sure the hackers use TOR a lot.
I
f if you could have some ginnie pig Luser as bail
Things can 'get out of hand' as you can see.
Kinda ironic isn't it?
As the article title states, it IS complicated.
IBM may be expessive, but no more so that MS, and IBM has massive support resources and obviously a warm feeling to sooth corp chair's and CEO and CIO's about the longevity of deploying a Linux Desktop.
.coms and make some money, all running Linux. I refer to online open comminuty for help from time to time, as well as, offer consulting FREE in return for the support they gave me.
My God, I run a few

MS continues to miss the target with all of their Adverts (across the board) Because, of the Blogosphere, people can talk about products before buying them.
