True. Microsoft is really competing against too many, and the more competitors the worse it gets for Microsoft. Microsoft only tries to make their products good in their own point of view, which is the income. On the other hand, these days competitors offers much better solutions in the user's point of view. It's just a matter of time until Microsoft collapses... and I believe we are talking about a couple of years or so here.
I wonder if this article is about how Apple is sweeping problems like dust, under the carpet. Sounds very Microsoft'ish. However, it's also very likely that Apple really takes care of those problems, but I don't understand why to hide them as if they didn't exist at all.
This upgrade really deserves to be called an "upgrade". I found Vista more sluggish, as it took way more time to boot and perform fingerprint login compared to XP. Also, browsing files was slow, and I experienced roughly 20-40 fps loss in games. I found that some devices that used to work in XP, didn't work in Vista. Vista also eats lots of memory and CPU, let alone disk space. The one and only advantage in Vista compared to XP is the overrated Aero interface, which in fact takes lots of resources to run and isn't really that beautiful. Window switcher ? *sigh* It just really isn't worth it, believe me. XP is better than Vista, period.
That being said, I see the upgrade from Vista to XP as just an upgrade from bad to less bad. Of course most games play best on Windows, but aside from that, everything can be done better in other operating systems. OS X and Linux (Ubuntu as a popular example) are really something beyond Micro$oft's imagination. No, I'm not forcing people to switch their operating systems, instead I strongly recommend that people take look at the alternatives and think if they're really happy with sticking (and struggling) in the "World of Windows".
I couldn't open the article page (for _some_ reason), so I don't know which one is actually better. I'm using Ubuntu Hardy dev release at the moment, but I still think that Gutsy was a great release ! I've never really used OS X so I can't really tell how good/bad it is. However I can tell I've been very happy with Ubuntu ever since I started using it. I recommend !
If you buy music to play it on your Zune (if you even had one, that is), you won't be able to play them anywhere else on that format, right ? Well if this is the case, and given that not all users know how to convert music from format to another, do customers have to buy the same music multiple times ? If so, that sucks. But hey, it's not a big deal, it's Micro$oft !
Many stores were selling computers with XP away with discount so that they could start selling the same computers with Vista on them. And now, let me guess, they are doing the same with Vista computers, so that they could start selling XP preloaded computers again? Micro$oft really screwed things up with Vista, it seems.
Anyway, many people don't really care which Windows comes preinstalled with the computer. Linux these days is a very viable option as well. The laptop I'm using now, Lenovo ThinkPad T60, came with Windows Vista Business. I didn't like it very much, so I installed Ubuntu and have been happy with it ever since.
If it's Microsoft, no.

They've made XP too good. Hey wait, there's "Service Pack" 3 coming.

I bet that room is used for playing games instead.
