Not as much tech info in this one, but a good read (most of RootPrompt is good reading :).

HAHA! I agree wholeheartedly! I am (currently) japanese-impaired and I would consider most of the dub-lovers I know to be illiterate (havn't read a real piece of literature in the last 9 months). Also, your slogan is all to true: I stopped buying cannabis, only to spend $150+ in one weekend on new DVDs! I think that even drinking would be cheaper than anime (if I was into that)! Pot isn't addictive, but anime is! ^_^

    Lain - My latest addiction!

Recca no Honou - First saw it on the net, can't wait to get more episodes. Very good

Weiss Kreuz - Florists by day, assassin sleuths by night. Have only seen a few episodes, but good enough that I will be getting more.

Ninja Resurection - EXCELLENT if you liked Ninja Scroll. Get the DVD to avoid wasting money on 2 overpriced VHS tapes.

Slayers - Rival/partner sorceresses for hire. Fun; I would like to see the series.

    Evangelion - My god!

Gundam X and Gundam Zeta - What can I say? I love big mecha and space combat ^_^ If you have seen the Toonami Gundam, I pity you for suffering some of the worst voice acting ever

Tekkaman Blade - Mecha fighting in space!

Macross Plus - More mecha tearing each other up! I can't get enough of this until some army starts producing this shit and recruits me!

Battleship Nadiseko - Mecha, space, aliens; gee can't figure out why I like this ^_^ Cool movie, but I need to see the series.

Battle Angel - trying to get my hands on this DVD, the preview blows me away.

Akira - List would be incomplete without it, but keep plenty of caffine handy because it is long.

Fist of the North Star - Really good series.

Fushigi Yuugi - Girl I'm seeing keeps telling me to watch it. It's probably good, she had true Japanese Eva years ago!

Super Cat Girl Nuku Nuku - Another recommendation from GF. Supposed to be pretty insane.

Dragon Ball Movies - If you thought the series lived up to its moniker (Drag-On Ball Z) then pick up some movies. I'm talking like movies number 4-13 here. 12 is probably my favorite because it starts with a Tenkaichi Budokai and in no time, it has Goku fighting his coolest opponent yet: Janenba! Movie 13 is also very good; it tells the tale of Brave Warrior Talbion and is also the story of how Trunks gets his sword.

Wow, I guess thats a good start of a list, but there is so much more I know I am forgetting (damn being at work). Now for proper viewing ritual:

    1. Prepare green tea.

    2. Make rice-balls as tea is brewing (you remembered to get good glucose covered rice, not that uncle ben crap, right?)

    3. Put ice and fresh water into bon^H^H^H err, I mean waterpipe...

    4. Eat, drink, smoke, watch and be merry! ^_^

Damn, I need the rest of the day off now!

  6. Dubbed?!? on Essential Anime · · Score: 1

Agreed: Eva rocks! But whats with recommending dubbed? English voice "actors" are just plain horrible in most dubbed anime. Havn't seen any dubbed since Mononoke Hime in theatres and it was actually good (they did a frame by frame translation). It really doesn't matter though if it's on DVD, as you can choose your prefrence.

Macross Plus is awesome, I enjoyed Slayers but havn't seen the series.

The rest of what I have to say belongs in another post.

    > But yeah, those battles where you barely come out alive are some best, don't you think!

oh, hell yes! I can remember fighting my ass off against anything and everything I could wander to and raising loads of levels, just to get stomped by the current boss character and go play more to get stronger and try it again. Though the battle system is more action-style, Secret of Mana is an excellent example of this: it was a great time running around slaughtering the enemies and when you're confident that you can take the boss on...SMACK! But know there has to be a chest somewhere with a weapon orb you didn't find, or find new armor for the sprite child. It was fun getting killed by the boss, even when I was sure I could kill him, even if I destroy the controller in a fit of rage :) Squaresoft makes great games. I love the Bushido Blades, Einhander, Musashi, FF Tactics and so on, but they've lost me and nearly anyone I know on the FF series because it is less and less of a game. I would love 4 (heck, 2) CDs full of WORLD(s) to explore, not a small world and CG sequences out the yin-yang. Movie sequences are nice complements to a game, but I shouldn't have to change CDs so the next movies will be ready. I spent about 15 minutes on FF7 disc 2 because other than new movies, it was pretty much identical to disc 3.

  20. Finally, they come clean! on Final Fantasy Movie Trailers · · Score: 2

I'm glad to see they finally decided to stop kidding themselves that FF is a game series anymore and just call it what it has been since FF7: A MOVIE. Don't get me wrong, I love the FF series...up to FF6. FF5 ROCKED (especially once I got a translated version, then even better (aside from slowness) on PSX. FF7 though, it just wasn't a game (for long enough). It was downright annoying (frustrating even) to go through Midgar holding materia without being able to even use it until a bunch of annoying plot devices were out of the way. If your gonna let me hold it, let me fucking use it! It was even worse if you played your ass off (strategy guides are for sissies) to get the coveted Gold Chocobo, because as a reward for being such a hardcore player, they ruin the rest of the game for you! Nothing can stand up to Knights of the Round except the weapons (like Emerald was even hard or fun). WTF is with Sephiroth biting the dust after ONE KotR summon?!? Once you had KotR you could walk through the world fearlessly, so it became a movie. FF8 was worse. Graphics improved and gameplay took a blow. Hell, it had a cool battle system, but what good is that? All it does is make you want to fight all the time and beef up your character until you realize that you are so powerful nothing can challenge you. So again, it turned into a PSX movie. FF7 with 3 discs and FF8 with 4, and FF3(FF6) STILL HAS MORE GAME TO PLAY IN A TINY CARTRIDGE!!

The movie ought to be really good, they've had enough practice on the PSX.
