  1. Re:Jetpacks are just a bad idea, just like sprawl on The Truth About New Jet Pack Hype · · Score: 1

Not to be a Troll, but every thing you say except for the lebensraum(more later) is a self-perpetuating cycle that is entirely a result of the American idea of entitlement(i.e. "Me and My kids are entitled to have the perfect life with no contact with reality").

The "White Flight" as it is occasionally known results in significant urban sprawl, economic stratification, abject poverty in the city center, increased strain on mass transit, depressed downtown economies, etc. And it doesn't solve any problems, it just results in an ever increasing commute time.

The method that cities use to survive and maintain their tax base is called annexation. The City expands its borders, recapturing the people who have moved to the suburbs, regaining its tax base(in some cases increasing it). Then the cycle repeats, people don't like living "in the city" so they move another 10 - 20 minutes away, and are annexed in the next round.

As far as the elbow room you crave, there are choices between an urban apartment and a horse farm in the country. I understand wanting a back yard, and even though I live downtown, I have one. I wanted to have room for a garden, and wanted to have a neighborhood where I knew my neighbors, but I could still easily walk to the city center. I'm perfectly happy where I am, I've been there for years, and have no intention of moving.

Sure, everyone here knows that they have to keep their minutes under control, but how do you control SMS? You don't get to choose whether or not you receive one. If someone calls me and I don't have minutes, I make a note of it, and call them when my nights and weekends kicks in. If someone texts me, I get charged whether its my girlfriend, or they want me to buy V1Agr4! (Yes, I have gotten Viagra SMS Spam, and I was charged for the privilege)

Buying out of state isn't an option, because the services will still have been performed _in the state_. That means that my PC repair company here in NC would have to charge this tax if we did work in MD(TWO STATES AWAY!)

As the Parent says: Buying out of state isn't an option

since companies have to pay a use tax for those cases
The use tax would apply to the custom software development, and the local tax would apply to any out-of-state IT services vendors.

Antennas are not stealthy. They have a radar signature, but glass has a minimal radar signature. So the tube should not be as non-stealthy as attaching a chunk of metal to an otherwise stealthy piece of equipment.

When I was in boot camp, sometimes they would punish us by making us hold a pencil. We had to hold it with both arms held straight out. We were young kids in pretty decent shape and it didn't take long at all for it to get pretty painful. Just the weight of holding up your arms can get to be too much after a while. If they had you hold your arms out to the sides instead of out in front, it would have had another name: Crucifixion. Anything done long enough can be painful.

I'd be very glad to see an actual game or product along these lines as it would introduce more exercise into the lives of the users. A really simple product that would work well with this would be in fast food. instead of having the workers touch a button with their gloves or hands, they just select the option they want in the air. And tell me, what is the difference between mashing the little tiny buttons on a fast food register, and using a system like this. (I haven't worked fast food, so if you know tell me) --The FNP

Anybody who even looked at TFA should have been able to notice the far-right wing ads that caught the eye faster than TFA. I mean come on! Ads for a "I Survived Roe v. And yes a google non-story written by nut jobs doesn't deserve this much attention.

  11. Re:Uhmmm...... on Scientist Are Working to 'Steer' Hurricanes · · Score: 1

Here in the American Southeast, we currently have a _serious_ drought issue. One of the reasons the drought is so bad is because we haven't had any big hurricanes dumping water on the region (remember Floyd anyone?) We're slowly running out of water. Atlanta is critically low on water supplies, so is every other town in the southeast. It's predicted to be a dry winter as well. Here in NC, we've survived by buying water from neighboring towns, but everyone has no water. I used to live on the coast. We got hit with Hugo, Bertha, Fran, Dennis, Floyd, Irene?, and the places that were damaged, were the ones where the architects and engineers screwed up, or where people thought that having really tall trees all around their house would protect them. And to everyone living in low-lying areas: Next time you buy a house, look at a map and see that you are in the danger zone.
