$1500 isn't really that much for a 'good' computer - certainly not given the current exchange rate! Ha! But seriously - 1500 dollars will get you a decent motherboard, a strong CPU, and a high end GPU. Certainly, you can spend $600-800 and get an entire system which will play everything well; but actually, some of us DO care about FPS. Some of us DO genuinely want to spend $500 on a GPU, just because we want to be able to run everything on maximum settings with 16X AA at 1080p.
I notice the rather droll department, 'more FPS = more fun'. Certainly, it's easy to laugh at people who take FPS to seriously. But please - don't forget that there is a valid point underneath all that. A game running smoothly will be a lot more enjoyable than a game that shudders along at 35 FPS.
Did you not read the original topic? I thought it was made pretty clear that the reason Valve are doing this is because they can't afford to have everyone buy the game in Thailand for a quarter of the price, and import it over to the West.
The problem we have is that if you win, and Valve fold, allow all these Russian or Thai copies to be activated in the U.S., they're going to have to raise the prices in these poorer countries to reduce the incentive for importers, essentially locking out financially anyone who genuinely wanted a localised copy for a fair price.
I'm not going to argue here that Valve aren't greedy, and it would be just lovely if everyone paid the same price for the same game. Problem is, why would anyone buy a U.S. copy if they could get it for a quarter of the price in Thailand?
TL;dr - I gladly pay an extra £20, safe in the knowledge that some poor farmers are going to be able to enjoy Portal : )
Yes, I know; but he hasn't exactly come out against the expansion packs, has he? I hate to invoke Godwin's law so soon, but... no, forget it. It was a joke. Forget it
All of you MAFIAA shills can whine "oh but that's not what you guys are REALLY using them for!" all you want...
Why, yes, thank you; I shall. Discs really aren't that fragile - trust me, I've always treated my CDs / DVDs like shit, and I've had very few breaks. Besides, why are these people letting small children play videogames by themselves? I'd be more worried about the parenting failure than $40 on a Wii game.
Yeah, but how many more people use it for illegal purposes than legal purposes? Being absolutely, 100% honest, it's not fair to expect Nintendo, or any other company to simply do nothing because a few people genuinely want to back up their games.
In this thread we reverse our views on patents:
Well, you need to have 3x the price when you 0.003x the market share. : )

How the fuck does the creator of The Sims have any right to accuse people of rehashing the same old crap over again?
