I have worked with Tens of GB(58gb+) files over NFS between linux boxes. Make sure that nfs version 3 or higher is enabled in your kernel. Chances are the version of mac OS you are using does not support NFS a newer version of NFS.
you should have to compete directly against another person(s) or team(s) (notice the word "directly"?)
Ok bunch of guys driving cars on the coarse competeing directly against each other.
there has to be an objective measure of victory (that's right no French judges that have been bought off...this applies to boxing, too...it's only a sport when someone is knocked out)
Some one crosses the finish line first.
you have to exert yourself physically (that's right chess isn't a sport nor is EQ)
You try driving a multi-ton(with aerodynamic down force added in) car throught a corner at 200 miles per hour with out power steering. Its hard, it make you exert yourself.
you have to be able to be injured in the normal course of play not as some freak accident.
People crash and hurt themselves in almost every race, that is the reson that most people watch.
the athlete has to be you (not a horse, dog, robot, or blow up doll)
They are the ones driving the car is just a tool. It is like saying that hockey is not a sport because they use sticks and skates.
ideally there should be an object to struggle over such as a ball, puck or some such but this one has been waved by my brother-in-law who pointed out that boxing doesn't have this and boxing is definitely a sport as long as it doesn't go to the judges...that should be considered a draw if no one goes unconcious.
They struggle over the space on the coarse.
Other than that I completely agree, I had the same kind of arugements during the winter olympics
because there are lot of non-sports in the winter olympics.
Use PPPoE if you are not tring to setup anonymous network access. But ether way have to put public access ethernet access on its own network maybe it could share with the network for your public access computers, but they should be on there own network from the libraries internal computers. Tell the Librarians it would be like letting anyone in the public come in and use there private desks whenever they wanted.
Use a linux box running PPPoE(PPP over Ehternet) that way you can track who was using what ip at what time. www.roaringpenguin.com has a commerial solution if you want to go that way, but you can do all the stuff your self.

As for the "great camerawork" as soon as the camera flew throught bannister I spent the rest of the movie looking for CG and all the shots around the house were CG and were not that well done, the CG edges did not look like the real edges they tried to cover that up by making all the fly around parts CG but it just pointed out to me that they all looked fake. If you are going to do this you need to hire ILM they are the only ones that I see do this stuff right.

But with a dual proc system you get acpi and IO-ACPI by default. Dual proc systems are ment for server/workstaion market and cost more and manufactures don't do things like connect certain IRQs to certain PCI slots. Plus as an earlier post said, windows installs differant software for different hardware.
That is not ture you can put a bridge, on a PCI card with not extra pins. There are meany cards out there with which have there own PCI bus on board, it just takes a PCI bridge chip.
Ya, I had that thought but I got mine yesterday and it seems to be well built. As long as you do not put it in your pocket with it slid open it should be fine. It would be cooler if if had a metal case instead of a metal looking case but it is much ligher than my buddies jornada.
Well you don't have to take Maya away to switch to Linux, as Maya runs on Linux. Plus, people like Dreamworks and Digital Domain thing Linux is the future and are moving to Linux as fast as they can.
Well the problem is that you have to address every bit in a file not just the block that it is on. So a 64bit VFS address space would be ~2 million terabytes or 2048 petabytes or 2 exobytes. But as I recall there file discripters are signed so you really don't get that much.
That is not waht the artical said it said it was the first to support more that a 100 patabyte file. But they were not really clear as they seemed to run the two things to gether. Plus linux has had 48bit ATA support for awhile as well.
Nylon cord like 1/4" or 3/8" and a ballon with only a little air in it, and a sho[p vac is what we use. Your main problem is stopping the vaccum as the ballon shoots into it. Then pull a permant pull string with the cable bundle, and use big washer or nut to keep the pull cord from being lost.
I am working on a similar project but in the >1TB range same thing applys to http://staff.sdsc.edu/its/terafile/
On that page they have a link to another page with stuff about ide-raid. >http://www.research.att.com/~gjm/linux/ide-rai d.html
The 3ware cards are the way to go as they do raid 0,1,5 in hardware, and support things like hot swap and hot spare. I priced out a system that was just over 1TB of raid 5 for around $5,000 while the prebuilt stuff is $20,000.
While QNX is based on a micro kernel and message passing OS, which along with proton can be put on a floppy. That does not mean that what ever GUI system that they have running is small and or fast. Because of Microshafts Winbloze everything is the OS. People often don't see the differance between the OS and apps, like the GUI that run on top of it.
I was about to say the same thing I have a CRT that has a dead pixel amost in the center of the screen, and it has been there sence the moniter was new. I have also seen parts of lcd screen backlights go out.
It is like all electronics it is ether going to work forever or start going bad early.
Two problems with that one that if the electrons were not being absorbed by the coating on the inside of the screen. There would be no light.
Second is that acording to modern electrical thoery the electrons actually traval from the negitivly charged screen to the positivly charged electron "gun".
Dsl over fiber works because it was installed after dsl became popular and you have a what you called a "mini-slam". The problem that other people have is that when thay installed fiber in other places they installed copper to fiber bridges that limit each copper line to some low bit rate I have heard 46kbits before but sense the sense he was only getting 26 some thing with a dial up that means that is all the bandwith there is with the fiber to copper bridge.
THe problem is that I can't remember what it is called all I can remember is that freeway designs. Anyway it is a dual slot 1 board with 6PCI(on two seperate brieged pci busses) and an AGP slot. ACPI means 15 irqs, and I have never had an irq conflict problem. The funny thing is that I have two cards that there own internal pci busses so I have 5 pci busses if I do a cat/proc/pci.
I my experiance avoid intergrated sound/NIC/SCSI/video, this stuff is made for the low cost market and you will go throught fits tring to get stuff to work. Workstation and low-end server are the only way to go is you want lots of stuff to WORK.
Your Problem is probably your mobo manufacture they cut coners and assign certain IRQs to certain pci slots, and then some cards only support som IRQs and you get F***ed over. Personally have not had any IRQ problems sense I bought a good dual proc mobo and realized that I had then had 16 IRQs provided by IO-APIC. And completely stoped running Winboze. Linux has come so far that it was easier and took less time to setup a USB keybaord and mouse, on my Game box which I gave up on after about 4 hours. Linux box only took 15 minutes including compile and reboot.
I must not know how to use a o-scope ether because your scope has that fancy digital stuff. Why would you need a manual. Here is a universial manual. 1.) find button/switch labbel power. 2a.) Play with x and y position until, you center the flat line. 2b.) get focus until it is as fine as posable and play with the Inens until it is visable but not overly. 3.) Hook up a probe to the test pattern and make sure that everything is ok. Make sure the scope is in cal all the way to one end usally clicks in. 4.) Set the time base set the voltage, I have never seen one that did not say V/cm(or division). How often do you need an external trigger. Then just pick ac, dc. And hook up the probe to whatever you need need to mesure.
I have never seen a O-scope manual just used them in EE labs, and learned along the way. Only even came up once when as EE labs tend to do we had to do some off the wall thing and need to know some weird info about the way the scope worked.
Well he would be able to transfer at the speed of Firewire instead of ethernet which could be faster, as long as he does not have gigabit Ethernet.

But you can just put a hole in a regular VHS tape where the extra hole is in the SVHS tape and do that trick with any SVHS vcr.

That is so true as the uClinux has no memory protection between processes.
But to answer the question linux has trouble running on anything that does not have a full MMU.
