Your argument seems to be this: an enough quantity of people will be able to discern propaganda/lies/illusions from truth/reality, therefore democracy is a good idea.
Apart from being a poor, inductive argument, you seem to have forget that most people aren't educated in state affairs, apart from what they see on TV. This means their perception of reality is largely a product of media manipulation.
Did you ever check out the documentary by Brian Springer, documenting how false this media surface really is?

Instead of praising "OS purity," how about integrating closed source code to fulfill a function in OS software? We don't need false dichotomies.
