    Are you saying I have to pay royalties to the music companies even if I'm not burning my CD-R's with their music? What if I burned performances of my own garage band? Or my data? Or an ISO image of a Linux distro?

    In Malaysia we only have 1 phone company. Local calls used to be flat-rate, but since we opened up an ISP here, they started metering (since the dialup service is a phone call away). Telekom profits tremendously from this, despite protests from users. Oh well... I guess that's what happens when monopolies have too much power.

    At the University of Science, Malaysia (where I am studying computer science), we were introduced to Linux and gcc and vi :)
    Guess we were lucky, huh?

    I simply hooked the line-out jack on my soundcard to my line-in jack on my stereo using a standard audio cable that cost around a buck.

    This is eeriely similar to "Night Watch" from babylon 5, where some people on the station had to report "suspicious" and "unpatriotic" behavior in their friends to a dictator-led government.
