I feel very strongly that lack of innovation in display technology is really holding back improvements (getting away from WIMP) in human-computer interaction.
While this doesn't change for form-factor of the display - it's still a rigid thing that you set up on a hard flat surface, the problem of resolution is an issue that's needed a solution for a long time....now if it was only $800 and not $8000.
I do appreciate the story line, though I still think this season sucked - primarily because of the lame story.
I got the feeling that when Buffy shifted from the WB to UPN, they hired a slew of new writers and told them something like, "Ok, you have a week to write the next season of Buffy."
Now that I think about it, I guess that's to be expected. This IS UPN we're talking about.
Uh, no. I got the point which, for those who didn't watch, was: Friends and family are what matters most.
While that's quaint and all, it's not why I watch Buffy. I don't watch a show about girls who kill daemons (heh) for the "very special episodes" I watch it for the ass-kicking, super-slam spectacular, damnit!
I just had to post this, from their website:
=========================================
Star Bridge Systems' Hypercomputer systems amalgamate hundreds of FPGA chips into a generally-useful critical mass of computing resources with variable communications and memory topologies to form what the company believes is the first massively-parallel, reconfigurable, third-order programmable, ultra-tightly-coupled, fully linearly-scalable, evolvable, asymmetrical multiprocessor.

I'm guessing that whomever wrote that won a "who can fit the most techno-jargon into one sentence" contest!
This is great news...

I was surprised that iTunes3 was announced without support for AAC (mpeg-4 Advanced Audio Coding).
Anyone care to speculate when iTunes (and more importantly, the iPod) will support AAC?
True. I was exagerating to make my point.

Are you kidding ???
The last season of Buffy was terrible! It was all about the characters moping around, making messes of thier lives.
What happened to the ass-kicking goodness that I've come love, nay expect?
Uh...forget about that first commment. I was a bit too sleepy when I wrote it.
The link is good though. Check out the Metropolis article.
Apparently neither The Economist nor Slashdot knows the difference between translucent and transparent. Ugh.
Anyway, this is old news. Metropolis magazine reported on the development of translucent concrete back in April 2001.
My Dad always writes "Please throw gently!" on the box when he ships via UPS.

Here in California, we can buy our electricity from renewable, non-poluting sources, such as solar arrays and wind turbines.

This is available in other states too. Check out: Green Mountain Energy.
The market is huge!
...us geeks just don't see it because we're big time "technology apologists" (to use Alan Cooper's words).

You guys should read Don Norman's book, "The Invisible Computer."
Info about it is available from the MIT Press website.
