The only reason Microsoft can currently hold this monopoly so effectively is games... There are no good games developed for other operating systems and there definitely aren't games offered exclusively for an operating system other than windows (At least no good ones). Sure, there are emulators such as WINE but these emulators can never run the game as well as Windows since it was developed exclusively for windows.

The solution is that the open source communities need to produce a viable alternative to DirectX for the game makers.

Has anyone else been noticing how an idiotic celebrity has been jumping up deciding he doesn't want P2P around anymore these days? Also how much attention he is getting? Take for example, this guy, he is clearly a stuck up ass who is complaining because he doesn't think his connection is fast enough and he's looking for the first person to blame rather than admit hes an idiot who has no idea whats going on. Also what in the hell makes him think his connection is more valuable than mine??? We probably pay the same price. Comcast advertises a certain connection speed and if I'm going to pay their outrageous premium than by god I'm going to use my connection when I want and as long as I want for whatever I want and I'll be damned before I let someone tell me I'm using my "unlimited usage" connection too much.

Furthermore what the hell can this dumbass possibly know about networks? I mean come on, he can probably barely manage to turn a computer on much less understand the complexity of networks and systems to a point where he would even be qualified to say "OOH BLOCK P2P EVERYTHING WILL BE BETTER!". I wish some major company would realize the potential of P2P as a money saving alternative to dedicated servers and start endorsing it so these crumby ISP's looking to save a few dollars will start hurting like they should be.

Theres my ranting for the month.

Thats not obese, if a 6 foot guy who weighs 200 pounds has to ask a 3 foot midget who weights 200 pounds to buy him a drink since the machine thinks he's obese theres something wrong. Also you could just put one foot on the scale and transfer weight to the other foot.

*A product that we don't have to force upon our customers so that someone will buy it
*A product that is better than its predecessor
*A product that wont be so terrible we have to eventually resort to dirty sales tactics just to get it off the shelfs (DX10 anyone)
*A product that isn't as annoying as it is useless
*Another good skin that makes up for the inferiority of the product (But, that skin will only be included in the premium package)

  21. Re:Oh, Thank Heavens! on New Parental Controls Limit Xbox Time · · Score: 1

First of all, video games are very educational. You wouldn't notice the educational possibilities most of the time in-game because it's usually stuff you, as an adult, already know and are accustomed to. Even video games like Runescape are educational (INB4 flaming) it can teach you real things such as when you smelt copper with tin it makes bronze, etc. The thing I think MMORPGS such as WoW teach the most is economics. Thats right, economics. When the demand for a product goes up (Example: New armor to smith) the price of the materials tends to go way up and the price of other things made up the same materials go down. Also if the supply of a material goes down, the price SKYROCKETS. All of this is similar to real world economics and there is plenty to learn in that field. Second of all there are things for computers that will turn it off after a set amount of time, its a plug that simply cuts the power from the computer after a timer finished ticking. They are excruciatingly annoying, it took a week for the one my parents bought to mysteriously malfunction (The things you can do with a paper clip).

If I was a kid who had the option of getting either an x-box 360 or a PS3 for Christmas right now I'd obviously go for the PS3. This feature is only going to lead to being an annoyance for kids, allot of kids honestly have nothing better to do during the week. I guess this is part of Microsofts crusade against its customers. Also kids aren't stupid, if they have a 360 and a parent who does that they will just find out your password or a way around it. Furthermore most parents try to go for the "2 hours a day" policy that the media throws at them. Any gamer knows that 2 hours is barely enough time to accomplish anything and if the console turns off after 2 hours of gameplay everyday its not a game anymore, its a chore.
