Why using an MS technology, on Linux? Technology that will probably be made obsolete by MS in a couple of years, by a new shiny replacement.XYZ+++ in order to SCAM more MS fan boys (all wearing their Tinfoil Hat).
Sure, because they're forcing customers to migrate. XP is basically dead support-wise, and when you buy new PCs, if you're lucky, you've to pay $100 in order to get XP. If you're lucky to have such option available.
I gave up on both Gnome and KDE long time ago. I recently had to (AKA was forced to) look at some Gnome code, and it was beyond any description of how bad code could be.
I'm currently using Icewm. It's small, fast, and it's not cancerogen like Gnome and KDE.
Put in Apple and the economic downturn, among the causes. Linux? You kidding? Have you seen the desktop market share of it?
And this comes from an heavy Linux user and enthusiast.
Architecture-wise, is junkware. If you know Java a little, try to understand their Parcelable fine invention. According to which, every class (and every class contained in it) that you want to pass to your application views, need to have its own ad-hoc serializeable methods. But wait, you think... Java already has its own Serializable, and comes for free by the JVM. Well, *they*, being very smart, decided that Java Serializable where to be too easy, and they invented that piece of shit of Parcelable, that does not come for free.
How genius?
And how do they plan to fit the memory bill of Windows apps, considering also that a dynamic code regeneration emulator blows even more than the native app?
All this on a mobile device? With its limited UI?
Sure there's plenty of people around wasting their time in worthless efforts.
Why?!? Among Windows Mobile, Linux, Android and Apple, Symbian the the most utterly screwed up platform.
Brain dead API and development environment.
I wouldn't invest a cent on it, if I were AT&T.
Apple scared? I guess you never used a Symbian smartphone before, did you?

100% agreed. Just be sure they won't force you to stop working on other open source projects, in your spare time.
Working, AND getting paid, to develop a code base you started is a killer deal.
DO IT!
I am certainly not a Windows fan, but the failure of Linux as a desktop OS is pretty much evident.
After 15 years, the adoption as far as desktop OS goes is in the neighbor of 2%.
So no, I don't see Linux in a desktop happening anymore, although I had hoped back then.
"Focus Fusion energy is essentially unlimited. The raw materials for hydrogen-boron fuel are exceedingly common. Hydrogen comes from ordinary water and boron from either abundant deposits or from sea-salt. Supplies of boron would be sufficient to maintain overall power consumption ten times the present global level for a billion years."
And of course, hydrogen comes naturally out of the water, with no energy consumption...
I agree with Chris Peters (whoever he is), that for a successful product you need to cut dependencies to the bone.
As for the parasites, man, that's just everywhere. Most of the software companies, especially the big ones, are invaded by parasites. People with no skills, that survives by kissing arses and sucking deep from their bosses.
This turns a company from being talent/skill driven, to being weaseling/kissing/sucking driven.
And the level of innovation and the quality of the products shows.
Apple is gaining PC desktop market share by the day, and this is going to put Apple more on the spotlight for virus/malware writers. Forget about the funny "Nice Apple dude, and fat Windows whimp" ad spot, you definitely need AV on a Mac. And the more Apple is becoming relevant on the PC desktop market, the more the need is real.
You've got to be kidding right?
Have you ever tried to open, say, a Mac Pro and a Dell, to take a look on how they're built?
Did you notice the super solid, tight tolerances, and quality of the electronic components on an Apple?
Did you notice how think and well machined is the Mac Pro aluminum case is?
Dell, you've cables flying everywhere, massive use of plastic, super wide tolerances.
Dell *may* cost less, but *sure* is cheaper value.
And I'm talking about Dell, that is what I consider the second in the PC manufacturer arena as far as build quality is concerned.

Funny how this translates to "In Jail" in Italian.

Like all regex/NFA/DFA based inspection engines, they all fail when malware hides inside archive files.

I hope they will stay on business, and I hope some other company will join too. Leaving Intel alone is too much of a monopoly for me to wish for.
BINGO! Very few of the environmental lefties realizes that. This is exactly what the oil-lobby that manages GWBush wants.
It looks like they're more targeting the Qualcomm chipsets, since their kernel repository is for that: http://git.android.com/
