I didn't say no-one does, I merely stated that not everyone does, one of whom is myself.

Arguments of "I don't use it illegally! I download linux with it!" are pointless.

Are they? Yet that is exactly type of argument that legitimized home VCRs

You might request "no nit-picking" but sorry, you can't expect that.

It is not theft, theft is defined in law as to "permanently deprive".

Your interpretation of "survival of the fittest" falls in to the classic mis-interpretation of "fittest" relating to physical fitness.

"Fitness" in Darwinian evolutionary theory means "most fit for a particular ecological niche", thus altruistic behavior can fit a particular niche. If it was purely "only the strong survive" then there would only be strong individuals left after the millions of years of evolutionary pressure.

That group/troupe living has flourished amongst so many animal species is proof alone that a selfish existence is a quick road to non-survival.

Humans often like to think themselves as the most successful animal yet they are not the most successful by the criteria of numbers or biomass.

the bluetooth keyboard doesn't help that much, you have to enter text into putty one line at a time through a dialog box

options .. send text .. [dialog] ... ok

not quiet like using a keyboard at a prompt and certainly not very curses friendly

with the added benefit that agile messenger works (IM client for icq, yahoo, msn & aol)

my friend has a sonyericsson p900 and can VNC into stuff to do work on T-Mobile but he can''t get agile to work at all, despite talking to support "well, it *should* work" is the best they could tell him !

also the 6600 is crippled for bluetooth networking so all traffic is via the GPRS, I've tried gnubox to no avail. (though I've not exhausted the permutations of dongles & base stations & sorting out interference with wifi etc.)

there's even python for series 60 now

I've avoided MSWindows based phones myself as I'm predjudiced against anything that says "synchronizes easily with Outlook" on the box :)

They *should* be able to prcess *any* data.

Your distinction between text and other forms of data is based on a false premise : that text is safe

if you doubt it see this from a few years ago, where Outlook exposed a buffer overflow problem from INETCOMM.DLL when processing PLAIN TEXT emails (as *all* emails are when transmitted).

I think your repsonse demonstrates a lack of understanding on your part. With a buffer overflow the apoplication used doesn't need to provide the high level actions such as file deleting, that payload is delivered as part of the overflow. The overflow overwrites the return address that the subroutine is using, you change this to point to the data you have provided. Thus the machine "returns" its executuon point into the overflowed data. This data can contain any machine code required to perform the actions you would like.
