I'm still a winamp user, in fact I've been using it since I ripped my first CD back in 1999. I detest iTunes with a passion, and have yet to find an alternative. Until I've never had a need to. I was even about to start writing some winamp plugins, mostly to display clever things on my LCD Smartie.
I wonder if there are any plans to release the source code? I'm sure there's a hardcore group of users and holdouts like me who'd look after it.
Winamp is old fashioned enough to allow me to manage my own files. My MP3 collection comes to work with me on an external drive. And I love the visualizations, as does my young son.
This happened in the state north of mine, New South Wales. How embarrassing... As the article points out, the party was first on the ballot paper and had a name a lot like another larger party.
And in related embarrassing news, here in Victoria someone from the "Australian Motoring Enthusiasts Party" was elected to the senate! It's not even clear if they have any policies at all. A lot of this was because of preference deals with the Sex Party. Yes, your read that right, the Sex Party.
Voting is compulsory here in Australia. It's usually pretty clear (no chance of hanging chads), but this time around the senate paper was more than a metre wide and had 97 candidates on it. The easy voting option is to put one number above the line. The hard voting option involves putting a number in all 97 boxes... which I've done in the past, but didn't the patience to do this time.
Oh FFS, just spotted someone from the "Australian Sports Party" has won a seat in Western Australia... It's going to be a very weird six year senate term...
This trailer looks like they've turned the book into an action film - which the book most definitely was not. The things I remember most about it (and it's been some ten years since I last read it) was the relationship Ender had with his strange brother and sister, that he was bred for the job, and throughout he has no idea that what he's doing is not a test or an exercise. He also kills two of his fellow children whilst growing up, albeit somewhat accidentally. And he ends the story has a haggard and worn out child who is at the end of his tether.
This looks like yet another film with climatic space battles and lots of special effects - an action film rather than a science fiction film. I'm disappointed they've lost all of the mystery and pathos. The central part of the story was about Ender training in zero gravity, to be able to lead large groups of people and to innovate tactically. That seems to have been lost as the main element of the film.
I'm not going to go see this, based on this trailer, it's lost all elements of the story that I really liked. Ender never screamed commands as a world exploded. I don't need to see Harrison Ford and Ben Kinsley, both excellent actors, wandering about looking serious (again) and telling Ender he has to save the world. Ender did, but he didn't know it at the time.
A couple of years ago, a friend of mine, and member of a group I ran, was killed in a car accident. The guy was a promising artist, and only 21:-(
He was also the holder of our group's domain name and web site, which we needed to rescue. In the end, with help from his dad, the web hoster in question gave us a new password. There was some back and forth, while we provided them with as much info as we had about the domain and so forth. In the end we rescued a couple of his sites as well as ours, which his family was delighted about...
So, I think approaching the organisations in question, and being as open as possible, seems like your best bet.
I'm planning to get one of each - I mean, a barcode tattoo, but I'm also going to borrow one of the cool antenna patterns from the Alien RFID tags I'm working with here at my job...
Trust me, it would have to go a long way off course to hit anything important, there's not much out there. The british government used to test atomic bombs in the area, and when it was used as a missile testing range in 50's and 60's, they used to close off an area of desert the size of the UK as a "crash zone" for the rockets. Trust me, they could land Mir there and no-one would notice.
I have a Hotbot mail account I picked up just as they started giving them out - a good 4 years ago now. Hence I got a meaningful name on there - instead of some stupid nickname with a "74" on the end.
Anyway, Hotbot now belongs to Lycos, and they stopped giving away e-mail accounts ages ago. Then the other day I got e-mail saying they're shutting down all the @hotbot.com addresses, and telling everybody to head over to Lycos. To quote the e-mail: MUST READ: YOUR HOTBOT ACCOUNT WILL BE DISCONTINUED ON JANUARY 31, 2001
I know it wasn't a popular mailer, still, it's the first one I've known of which has actually pulled the plug.

Curse you AOL, you destroyer of good things.

"Remember, the enemy's gate is down".
I knew I wasn't the first person to think this :-)
Kevin Smith has really fallen on hard times....
Yep, the second Dirk Gently novel as I recall.
