I think the thread has been hijacked by the NSA to tell people how great Windows is, and make people switch to it. Windows has been a pile of crap since they introduced their "telemetry", which is in fact a "report all my activity to the governments please" feature. I have switched to CentOS for my main desktop, and even though there are actually some stability problems with KDE Plasma and some apps that I compiled and installed, the OS itself is pretty stable.

However, I would never put a Linux in the hands of my mom.

That being said, to get back to the main subject, it is a plain shame to see that bash has its .exe version. Disgusting.

You mean that's not how it already is?? Upon install, you have a Google Chrome option which is checked by default. And once in the UI, there's an "Upgrade" section that tries to sell you the "Pro version"...

The simple fact to have an "auto-update" feature is a guarantee that you will receive stuff you don't want at some point.

I don't see what's so better about Apple. Their walled garden that require you to buy their overpriced accessories? The requirement to use their shitty iTunes app to load your stuff into the phone?

I had to install iTunes for my girlfriend last week, the Windows binary is now over 250Mb. The last iPhone I had was a 4S (before the new connector required me to dump all the docking stations I had), and back then the iTunes install was around 50Mb.

Humans are part of the ecosystem, have developed in a way that they are conscious of what they are doing (or not...), and know that they can have an impact (tiny or global) on the planet. Now if we REALLY cause a mass extinction because of our actions, it will still be a "natural" cause.

If this extinction was caused by another species on our planet, would it be more natural? Absolutely not. it would be the exact same shit. Now let's say it would be caused by an extraterrestrial species coming to annihilate us. Would it be natural? Absolutely. They have evolved in a way that they can rule the galaxy, and we haven't. Nature is not just trees, flowers and other animals. We are also part of it.

  15. The notion of "harassment" has got very blurry lately...

Back in my days, I was the little big guy in the school yard. I had to deal with insults, punches in the belly and snowballs in the face. Guess what? The school director did absolutely nothing. I had to learn to defend myself. My grandfather taught me how to fight, and after a few lessons and practice, that's what I did.

Never did I complain to my mother, it would have been cowardice.

After a few good fights where I showed I would not let others make fun of me, they left me alone, and I made some good friends for the rest of high school. With all those millenials pouring in, defended by their parents and having never felt what it's like to be truly harassed, the notion of harassment has got down to almost considering unfriending someone on Facebook as harassment.

I am happy to be born in the early 80's, I may be part of the last generation of real men that had to physically defend themselves to be respected, just as the nature gave us in our genes. Not being defended by our parents or going to the police for a slight schoolyard fight.

I would add that the "view source" is not a way to learn to code the "under the hood" functionalities. It is a way to see how the site integration is done. Back in my days, I learn how to build proper TABLES, TR, TD. Now I have learned to work with DIVs to organize my containers.

I find the "Developer tools" to be now way more useful than "view source". First it does not require a new page load, so you can see the markup after a POST for example. And you can just point at the element of interest, and it shows you where it is in the page's "source code" (Markup code)

Building dynamic, DB driven websites is not a thing of "view source", it is a game of tutorials. Make your first "Hello World!", then continue on. That's how I learned PHP. At first I learned procedural coding, and no I just began working with objects. But this has nothing to do with "View source".
