when [the U.S.] is actually behind Europe when it comes to safety metrics (Europe has.032 hull losses per 1 million departures vs..049 in North America).
You've gone from an argument about the U.S. to cite statistics from North America - which, as you may have noticed, contains other nations.
What is it with medical equipment? Does every piece down to a stethoscope have a radio-activated kill switch?
Remember when they were hypersensitive about cell phones in hospitals for the same reason? They still have the signs up, but no one seems to notice any more.
Sounds to me like the main issue here is how to get a grant to buy some cool stuff for your EM lab and maybe get your name in JAMA, but maybe I'm just a cynic.
If like me your idea of Personal Computing is getting news on the Internet and making insightful comments, you should welcome eight processor computers which would result in four times more insight than this message from a two core processor.
These neutrons have a very large amount of kinetic energy sufficient to ionize an atom it happens to collide with. A neutron detector combines a reservoir of atoms with which to collide with a scintillation detector which measures the photons released after these ionizing collisions. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scintillation_counter/.
The benefits of space development are not 100% crystal clear to the general public.
The benefits of manned space flight do not appear particularly obvious to many observers, both informed and otherwise. While there is plenty of science remaining to be done in space, benefits of putting people in space seems to be pretty much in finding out the effects of spaceflight on people.
Even the general public appear to be catching on that this is a bit of a confidence scheme. Justifying science budgets with patriotism is a dangerous game.

Bah! None of consequence.
USA! USA! USA!

Look at all the discussion here. Each comment was made by someone who was a little bored at the time and bounced over to /. to see what was up.
There might be a, shall we say, kernel of truth here.

Check out here.
If the FBI asks, you didn't hear it from me.
Wait, can I still say that here? Oh, sorry, never mind.
It goes without saying that I for one welcome our new FCC overlords.
A little overeager with the slashes there. Correct link is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scintillation_counter.

Well the news is obvious: they are finally collocating a data center with the warehouse that they have been sending all those bug reports for years.
