They have realised they have been trumped by the PS3 at the top end, with hardcore gaming, high-end graphical capabilities, and high end featues like Blu-Ray, so now they are setting their sights at the low end instead, competing against the Wii for the casual gamer.
I don't think it will work personally. As Sony also have eyes on this space too (and arguably more mature technology, which they were able to demo live - unlike Microsofts fantasy showcase).
hang on a moment. When HD DVD crashed out, everyone jumped on the "Digital Download Bandwagon", when Microsoft proclaimed that they didn't need Blu-Ray, and digital downloads were the future.
Now it seems they might not be, and Xbox has to rely on 1999 technology for it's optical storage medium?
Next thing you will be telling me that Forza 3, FFXIII, MetalGearSolidRising and many Xbox games will be coming on multiple discs....
Actually it's horrible thing to have anywhere near a enterntainment system, it's too damn noisy for starters, runs too hot, and breaks all the time.
I got fed up a couple of months back, sold mine, it's just too crappy at most things. Got a PS3 instead, much better.
Reatraction of the Slashdot Orange Box story, which has been proven by other reviewers to be totally blown out of all proportion by the original articile at 1UP, and the BS spread around by gutter sites like Slashdot.
If anyone picked up the free demo disc of Ratchet And Clank Future Tools Of Destruction on PS3, from Gamestop, it looked nice, but had quite bad framerate issues, and screen tearing. This was about 2 weeks prior to release.
The final cut of the game, is perfect, with perhaps the best looking and smoothest visuals ever seen in a videogame.
It really depends on how old the cut of the game code was, but I doubt SCEA would authorize it's release, if it's as bad as 1Up say it is.
So I can see this playing out 2 ways.
1/ The game comes out, and it's fine, and LOADS of trashy sites (this one included) are make to look like idiotic fanboys.
2/ SCEA block it's release, because it's sub par.
3/ SCEA don't block it, but it's still sub par, and then EA and Valve get it in the neck for sloppy coding (as the PS3 has been proven to be a great console, if you can be bothered to learn it).

They havn't got the fat one working yet, god help the world if they inflict a slim one...

It's Microsoft everything costs. It's sucks, but Last.FM is free on PS3 no subs required.

And so does the PS3. 256+256 = 512.
Now go back to school...
I have seen exactly this.

What part of pre-release do they not understand.
I get EA are funing today. I also expect 1UP to be precluded from ever seeing unfinished code again.. Talk about killing your buisness..
Slate it, if it hits the shelves like this, but lets at least wait until then, before passing judgement!
