    Yes. The "overinflated sense of entitlement" to something that is BROADCAST FOR FREE on the PUBLIC AIRWAVES for EVERYONE.

    Yeah. That's quite a "sense of entitlement": expecting to be able to receive a broadcast of a TV station in their broadcast area.

    What's next? Perhaps they will expect clean air and fresh water.

    Aereo is the rental of an antenna. It's no more a public performance than the rental of a VCR.

    High WAF with my MythTV solution yielded carte blanche on my computer purchases. She actually told me to "go get a Mac" to replace my original cobbled together frontend box.

    We were a Tivo household before that. So it's not like there were low expectations.

    However, the main challenge with OTA is the ANTENNA. That is the trickiest part by far and the one that frustrates so many people into using cable or Aereo.

    What kind of crack are you on?

    Unix and Linux have no malware to speak of and they are completley open platforms.

    On the other hand, Android has problems with "signed code". Yes. That's right. Android has problems with it's "app store". This isn't your grandfather's Windows style malware.

    This is the end user installing stuff that's compromised.

    All trojans all the time.

    Entirely different problem.

    We have made permanent adjustments for the entire household. We ALL avoid certain practices and triggers. We do this because a member of the household has this Atkins dietary type. We do this so that shared meals don't become an act of active sabotage for this person.

    The idea of a diet is a strange thing. You take up some good habits for awhle and then flush them. Ultimately you should be seeking permanent lifestyle changes.

    Chasing any fad on a temporary basis is likely to yield temporary results.

    Why are you going to eat 20,000 calories?

    What is it about your habits that cause things to go horribly wrong?

    For some people, it's eating carbs. For other people, it's eating cheap American bread in particular. If you know what your triggers are then you can avoid them.

    The idea isn't to follow any particular brand of orthodoxy but to find something that works for you personally and is something you can stand.

    You're assuming a 1/2 lb patty. That's your problem right there.

    Cutting the bun from a more reasonable size burger would be more like a 33% reduction. That's hardly "penny" territory.

    Being thin may not be healthy.

    However, being so fat that you no longer have a human shape certainly is unhealthy. The carb-centric mentality is a problem for many people and has done them nothing but harm.

    On the other hand, the previous model more or less advocated moderation and balance. It was not broken and didn't need fixed.

    We need to avoid the bogus political propaganda from vegan busybodies.

    What health problems? My health is probably better than yours.

    An omnivorous diet doesn't have to be an unhealthy one. Being opportunitistic scavengers by nature just means that we take the most advantage of what we have available.

    Despite what someone might have told you, you aren't a bovine.

    Although being pretentious about what you eat only solves one subset of the overall problem.

  13. I've never felt compelled to bother with such a setup. I have a rather large monitor. Dunno if I have room for another one like it. On the other hand, the whole "virtual workspace" thing seems to already accomplish a lot of what other people use multiple monitors for.

    Perhaps someday when I am REALLY bored I will buy a couple of cards high end enough for this to matter and horse race both operating systems.

    Now the way I approach things is to actually try and figure out what works best for a task. I might even ASK the kinds of people that already do something for their advice. I might even FOLLOW that advice.

    There IS a Linux happy path. There's also a Linux un-happy path.

    Avoiding the un-happy path is really not that hard if you're not just a troll.

    You mean like anyone with a Windows box?

    Linux distributions are just collections of upstream projects. That includes the kernel, the user land, and anything else.

    Someone comparable to myself either has some version of the kernel or the Nvidia blob drivers. That's the official driver from the hardware vendor. I might have a different version than someone else, but that has nothing to do with whether I'm running Gentoo or Arch or Slackware.

    EVERY ONE can have a different version of the official driver.

    It's no different from Windows in this regard.

    Every PC is going to be a random collection of software components that some 3rd party has no control over. Every user is free to do things that will scramble the mix.

    It's not the display. It's the codec and resolution of the video. The size you of the screen you are going to display it on has squat to do with what it will take to decode the video.

    For 720p or 1080p h264, this can be considerable. Add h265 into the mix and you've just added a whole new world of hurt.

    This allows machines that can't even run Windows anymore to deal with any video that you could throw at it.

    Even if you do have the CPU for "brute force", using speciality silicon on the GPU is probably more efficient (less battery drain).

    My favorite "low rez linux display" is measured in feet rather than inches.

    You're whining about the difficulties of using Linux for gaming and whatnot and then you declare that you bought yourself a Mac.

    That's funny.

    The crapulence of Mac hardware is perhaps the single biggest disadvantage of using MacOS. While MacOS itself may be nice, and a preloaded "Unix" might be nice, the choices that Apple makes in terms of hardware blow bloody chunks.

    Plus Apple's equivalent of PureVideo/VDPAU doesn't even expose all of those available features.

    If you're willing to use a lame Intel GPU, you really don't have to bother with Macs.

    I'm a long time Nvidia user and I don't see this kind of crap. I use exactly the kind of GPU video acceleration features that Google is whining about. I've used VDPAU pretty much since the day it was available and I used it's predecessor before then.

    No. Video does not "suck ass". Google is just a bunch of whining crybabies.

    Many of us have been happy as clams taking advantage of these features for years now on Linux. At least for Nvidia kit, it's pretty old news at this point.

    The Intel and AMD variants may not be up to snuff yet but progress is being made. Google could certainly "white list" Nvidia without trouble.

    As for the rest, they could allow it to be enabled for those that are really determined to take the risk. That might even help improve the quality of those other offerings.

    They can't be stressing things any harder than Valve.

    I was already well convinced that the GOP was waging a war on women long before Obama started with that still stuff. The GOP do well enough creating this impression on their own. They really don't need any help at all.
