Apple are great products for people that don't use them very seriously or in any creative sort of manner.

No. It's "blame apple fanboys for FUD and rhetoric".

I enjoy the fact that I dumped Apple every time I need to manage media or clean out my SMS messages.

I am less interested in the store, or how much money Google is making, or how much money app developers are making.

I am more interested in the actual phone.

Ultimately you end up running against the age old problem. You want to protect users from themselves but they also have to be able to do things for themselves. If you restrict them too much they will just get annoyed and shut security off entirely (Vista). If it's me, chances are that I am going to want to use my own data. It's kind of hard getting around that.

Clearly you have never dealt with outsourcing.

If you outsource something, you are FAR MORE LIKELY to be told NO. You can no longer abuse people who are your own employees. Now you have to deal with people that WORK FOR SOMEONE ELSE and have their own ideas about what's going on. If you ask for something that's out of scope or just plain stupid then you will be told so. It might be sold better.

However, you will still have layers of outside management preventing you from mindlessly having your way regardless of cost or consequences.

Of course this sort of thing is never actually acknowledged when outsourcing is being planned.

This reminds me of something that JUST happened to me. I managed across a DVD that is out of print in the US. You can buy it used but at "collectors" prices. Supply and demand rears it's ugly head. So I decided if I could get this thing at amazon UK since it was originally a BBC production. I was pleased to find out that yes it is still in print in the UK but Amazon won't ship it to me for some strange reason.

The physical media for this work is "out there" but not in my locale and a big web merchant that has this work doesn't want to ship it to where I happen to be.

When imports are available quite often their prices are jacked up accordingly.

I wouldn't fault a guy for being disinterested in buy an overpriced grey market option assuming that such a thing is even available.

Apple devices don't scale well for "work" in general. It doesn't matter if it's a higher degree of interactivity or just handling more "use".

They are also intentionally limited in terms of "play".

The new input devices certainly hold a lot of promise but the current devices that tend to employ them are overhyped. It's the inputs that are interesting not so much the devices they happen to be attached to today.
