  1. Lucky 7! on Windows 7 "Not Much Faster" Than Vista · · Score: 1

Been using Windows 7 RC1 for 2 days now. This article you refer to is BS. Windows 7 is nice and clean. Takes up a lot less space on hard drive than vista and is way faster to the average user than vista (even with vista in classic mode). I predict this to the be Microsoft's best seller yet. Hum, 2 days already and I havn't re-installed Linux partition yet...

  9. Companies worried about open source code on McAfee Worried Over "Ambiguous" Open Source Licenses · · Score: 1

Perhaps they are more worried that some of that code will be discovered that they actually copied and pasted it - basically stolen code. I image this scares the hell out of these companies including Microsoft! There isn't too much originality online anymore. Something that appears new has been thought of before and perhaps even used in another time or another application. Many people can write code or should I say put together code and hack it, so-to-speak, but few people can start from scratch and come up with something entirely new without using someone else code, controls, interfaces, or ideas. A lot of times you think you have a new idea, but later learn that many people have thought of this same idea and your "new" idea is not actually new! I don't know the facts, but according to the aritcles and movies /originally/ apple and microsoft stole their products. What really is going on here is they stole the idea and some of the code and changed it to make it their own and call it something else. An apple by another other name is still an apple - or should I say xerox - then microsoft approached apple and stole xerox work from them. In reality, they are all a bunch of crooks.

  10. fedora vs ubuntu on Fedora 8 A Serious Threat to Ubuntu · · Score: 1

I like many things about fedora but once it's updated (which is very often), you must upgrade your system if you want keep up. Where as Ubuntu releases are supported much longer! The article also talks about how great the fedora nodoka theme is, I searched google images and cannot see much different from ubuntu theme. Besides, most people do not use the default theme nor do they download a theme, they create their own look. I would not suggest anyone use fedora over ubuntu or debian, unless you have system hardware that fedora supports and ubuntu or debian doesn't. If this is the case, you are probably better off with SUSE.

  11. Re:$ spent but how? on 2007 Sees Wireless Spending Outstrip Landlines · · Score: 1

The phone monopolies have been overcharging us for years. Here are few facts, why does anyone need a land-line phone? Well obviously business still use the phone company as their phone and internet provider or high speed connection. So the ma bells have just a few more years before satellite or cable takes this business. As for individuals, there is no need to have both a cell and land-line phone. Most families have multiple cell phones anyway, so why pay 2 bills? There was a time if you wanted any type of credit, to purchase a home, etc, you were required to have a "home phone" which was defined as a permenant land-line phone. However, today with half americans almost bankrupt, there is no reason to keep spending on a home phone. Therefore, in the coming months the number with home phones will get smaller and smaller and the mini ma bells which purchase from the big bells will have to up their prices for businesses just to survive. I give it 5 years and the phone companies will be bust or they will sell out to cellular or cable companies. Many of the companies are already in the cellular and cable biz. They seen it coming 7 years ago. Why did it take this long? Mainly, as stated above, a land-line use to be a requirement to get a loan, not any more. America has been sold out to the highest bidder, now we are broke, making 1980 wages, and don't need credit because we don't have any - but we got internet and a cell phone! Saw a skit on the news that stated that people over 90 days late on their cc payments are up 50% this month and it would only get worse next year.

This is why I first ran Linux on my desktop. Now I can't imagine using anything else, but there are a few things keeping me from wiping Vista off my T60. First is the fact that the company website only runs under IE. Ok, so I install ie4lin, but it looks like crap and crashes a lot. Not for me. Secondly, I think it's a lot easier to develop on Windows than on Linux, especially if you don't know C++ - and what good is developing an application on linux if most people are using some version of Windows. There is however a cross-platform program that could be the Microsoft killer and it's called none-the-less REALbasic. However, it's not free either. http://www.realbasic.com/products/realbasic/tour/index.php?ch=7&os=lin Wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft bought out this company.
