The article notes that information is sparse. Hopefully more will be released soon. The production rates and energy density are both significant. Cost, including the environmental manufacturing and disposal costs, the number of recharges, and safety requirements are all necessary considerations in bringing a battery to market.
They are basically taking the same spot that TA Edison used so successfully
The same idea was also used by the University of Manchester with automated lab assistants dubbed Adam and Eve

I am 60 and I have zero interest in an Apple Watch. Does anyone say hipster anymore? Iâ(TM)m perfectly content to let the hipsters lay claim to the Apple Watch. I donâ(TM)t see it getting any interest from my generation
I have several books on the history of letters. In the days before phones and even telegraphs, statesman and scientists and poets and lovers shared their thoughts via letter. For sailors and travelers, there could be months and even years between visits. Letters were crafted and composed and thought over. They were read and reread and cherished. It was a different mindset to communication and for better or worse, it is one we have lost.
At the rate they are burning through cash, credibility, and public goodwill, next years plan for an IPO seems likely to be another epic fail for
Uber. They have went morphed from tech darlings into the poster child for greed, incompetence, corporate cultural failure, and technology overreach.
The real challenge for military planners is not handheld laser weapons but ground and plane based laser weapons. It isnâ(TM)t necessary for a laser weapon to destroy a plane or a ship. It only needs to take out the external elements of targeting and defensive systems leaving it vulnerable to conventional attack. An Aegis combat system will protect an aircraft carrier against a cruise missile. Chinese and American military planners understands that without a working Aegis system an aircraft carrier is nothing but a large and slow moving target. Laser weapons are a game changer in that situation
The safety driver watching Hulu is more than just a poor decision on the drivers part. It represents a complete failure of the safety culture at Uber.
What were hiring requirements and training for safety drivers. There was in cab recording of the safety driver. Was it streamed to a monitoring system to ensure the drivers were doing there job? Was it reviewed by safety supervisors? Was there any ongoing analysis done to determine how effective the safety drivers were? Did the safety drivers have regular performance reviews/ briefings to ensure they were staying focused on the road? The fact that the driver was watching Hulu while working suggests that she knew she was not being monitored and that her primary role was a warm body in the drivers seat as safety theater.
We donâ(TM)t but our politicians donâ(TM)t represent the voters. They represent lobbyists who expect their clients to have access to you via your phone. Existing laws are political theater, nothing more
The underlying assumption is that self awareness is like an ON switch that would create an instantaneous state change to fully sentient being. Currently our only reference frame is biological and in that frame, their is a correlation between âoeintelligenceâ and maturation period. A self aware AI would be flooded with a globally connected wealth of data and information. It would need to learn to integrate that into its consciousness. It would need to learn to exercise control over the a worldwide network of constantly changing inputs and outputs. The assumption is that silicon intelligence operates on a nanosecond time scale that would allow it to instantly evolve maturity. Just as a baby watches itâ(TM)s fingers move and slowly gains control an AI would have to recognize how to control everything from a Mars Rover to a traffic camera all operating differently. It would have to integrate a global database of information into a real time world view based on cameras and sensors and satellites and cell phones etc
I have a cheap $50 dashcam that provides better night recording than the Uber video. Given Uber’s insane market valuation, a reasonable person would think they would spend the minimal amount of money needed to have multiple high resolution cameras recording every test drive. Doesn’t a test AV exist solely as a platform for evaluating vehicle performance? How do you do that without referencing the basic visual data humans use in everyday driving?
The costa of automation are dropping rapidly while their reliability, features and ease of use are improving dramatically. Partisan are using this to attack minimum wage hikes but it is technology and not minimum wage rates that are driving the change. It isn’t just minimum wage jobs that are in play. Pharmacist, lawyers, stockbrokers, supply chain managers, accountants and dozens of other professional positions that are being taken over by automation and that trend will only accelerate
Human players are as good as they are going to be. AI players are constantly improving.
It took decades of progress for computers to win at chess. Many programmers and chess players assumed it couldn’t be done. Exponential improvements in hardware along with specialized algorithms and the relentless pace of machine learning overcame all obstacles. It will happen with Star Craft. The human players have peaked. The AI is just getting started
I have never heard of a civil search warrant?? At least the judge seems to have stated, clearly and unequivocally, a sane opinion of the true intent of the search. I don't know what recourse he has available under Canadian law but hopefully some justice will prevail. It clearly hasn't so far.
I searched last Christmas and for the following six months before stumbling across a few of them just being put out in a local wal mart. I thought about buying them all and EBay'ing all but one. I assumed, foolishly, that the shortages were ending and I would be lucky to get my money back. I am happy i got one for my family though!!!
Microsoft claims that its next-generation operating system is more robust at preventing counterfeit attempts. A more accurate story might mention that no one wants to counterfeit the bloated package of crippleware that is Windows Vista.
