    No, it is a twisted interpretation of the law. "The state" is used seven times in the law and this is the only instance where the court has decided it must mean the sate and the federal government.

    That's great that you screen calls. I screen scam artists that show up on my doorstep as well. But that literally has never happened. These calls are illegal and need to stop. The FTC needs to do something about it or pay the price.

    On May 26th, 2011 Barack Obama signed an extension of the Patriot Act into law. He assumed ownership of it at that point.

    It was Obama. He signed the Patriot Act Extension into law in 2011. We wouldn't be talking about this if he had vetoed or refused to sign. As of just before midnight on May 26th, 2011, Barack Obama assumed ownership of the Patriot Act.

    Except that when Obama is President, Congress using it's Constitutional powers to withhold funding is cast as, "Republicans holding guns to the heads of the American People." So don't count on that working.

    That's the argument Keynesians make. Others more grounded in reality would argue it was caused by The federal reserve and it's loose monetary policy starting in 1933. When the Fed slowed the printing of money in 1936 and 37 as it had to do to control inflation, it caused the recession. If it hadn't been printing money like mad in the first place this recession wouldn't have happened. It's a good lesson for today, as we are in a similar situation.
