    Rant Continued...

    Anyone buying a PS3/PS4 game on release day that requires 20GB of patches need to know that that game will "expire" too. As soon as the PS3 servers are shut down (they certainly won't go forever) you are stuck with the buggy release version on any future used console you buy. While NES/SNES/PS1 games will continue to work for another 50 years.

    This is such a Google move. Losing trust in Microsoft is not the best outcome. Not trusting cloud services tied to hardware purchases is much better. There needs to be a consumer pushback for cloud service guarantee periods just like limited hardware warranties. The FTC should be doing their part too - consumers are getting screwed everywhere. Just look at all the bundled digital copies of movies sit Blu-ray purchase that show an expired code when you get it home and open it up.

    Live tiles was no different than the unread email count overlay in iOS, but with more screen real estate.

    This is a situation where corporations are conveniently not people. So no one person will truly be held accountable.

    This. And there are few products even on the market yet, if any, that are doing this. I don't think anyone realized how soon this would be needed and nobody is willing to pay for it until it is.

    Security cameras need verifiable cryptographic signatures on both the timestamp and the frame contents right now. Yes, those can still be faked, but not as easily as image manipulation.

    This part is not true. Just because something is freely available does not make it free to distribute yourself. It is still protected by copyright. Also, these restore discs were not just vanilla Windows, I'm pretty sure they were manufacturer-specific recovery to get back to OEM state - trial software and all.

    First sale doctrine applies to the one original (and all its backups) in one transaction. He was selling (planning to sell) these discs to other refurbishers, directly profiting from more than just transferring a license.

    And the last version of Final Cut Studio was released that same year. It does not work at all on High Sierra.

    Each zoom level has a completely separate set of tiles. So even on raster, you didn't see any pixelation when zooming. That was true long before they switched to vector tiles on browsers that support it.

    Because if your metal goes in the trash, it doesn't come back. The wood doesn't have to be transported or stored in any special way to be renewed.

    That's supposed to be part of RCS. So...maybe. It probably depends on your carrier more than anything. I don't know how many carriers have even rolled out RCS yet. If they haven't you'll have SMS and this probably won't be possible.

    But, as you say, it still doesn't really matter at this point. It's already out there - it can't get much more out there than it already is.
