Now think about the world that could produce such a creature, with all those defenses. The Aliens.... are not even CLOSE to the top of the food chain. Imagine what horrors you would find on the world that produced them....
In a novel adapted from the original scenario, there was significant hints that the aliens were not a species, but a biological weapon that proved to be too dangerous even for their creators.
Had a similar problem with Dell France, a few months ago. Got a nice price for 10 servers ordered online. When my credit card was billed, the price was 25% higher.
I contacted my account manager who first tried to deny the incident, then offered a rebate on my next order, and finally assured me that he was on the case and that I'll soon see my money again.
Never got any news again, so my customers are not to see any dell computer in their systems in any predictable future...
