    Not always.
    They have legal uses.
    Like <insert car/gun/ect analogy>.

    Take for an example, the The Pirate Bay, they have otherwise censored documents about Scientology.

    Other positive uses include:
    Sampling
    Content that the makers no longer profit from
    Spreading legal material
    Getting around technical DRM issues(ahem Spore)

    The patent system is broken.
    That's understandable.
    But really, based on the sheer stupidity of patents pass though, it seems like all the people approving them are either drunk, apathetic or working on revolutionary theories about physics.

    Actually, most botnets tend to use existing technology, like how the Storm botnet uses Overnet. This system seems like a wifi mesh network.

    With or without excessive copyright, artists will lose. With copyright, they don't own their work and just feed off the crap their publisher feeds them. Without it, they can't own their work, and get money primarily though donations and events that don't rely on intellectual property being owned.

    The problem, according to the article is writing small files over and over again, like the journal in journaling file systems, so would not using a journaling file system reduce the problem?
