    It's called rooting and replacing the hosts file with a adblocking hosts file. OMG is android so much nicer after you do that.

    A friend bought a pallet of computers from an auction back in 1998. on the pallet we had computers from NASA and the DOD as well as other govt locations and many of them still had the hard drives in place. the NASA computer came with a box that was filled with floppies of all their software for satellite solar panel design and testing. There was also a Cromemco minicomputer that still had it's 8" hard drive and a TON of emails left in it (cracking the root password was trivial with an OS boot floppy) from all 10 users on the system.

    This has always been an issue with anything sold by companies or government.

    We used to also block all of AOL's ip pools as well as many of the large UNI address pools.

    If you never travel outside your country, why not block all networks from outside? Back in my AT&T days I blocked all of south america, europe, and asia for our servers because nobody from those locations had any reason to even contact our advertising data collection systems. There is no reason to keep your servers wide open for the world.

    we can only hope the 5500 other jobs all come from upper management. If there is anywhere they need to cut the fat, it's everyone at the executive level.

    If you are not making $45 or more an hour you are being robbed. Programmers are massively underpaid compared to the skillset we need to do our jobs. Why the hell do we tolerate deflating the job down to the level of a factory worker?

    I want a GPS app that when I follow a route it does not "FREAK the hell OUT" when I pull off for gas or lunch. It also should pull the current weather radar and allow it to be superimposed over my GPS map so I can see if I am going to be driving into rain. We have ALL this information right now all the technology is there. Yet programmers are too damned lazy to add real features that people will want.. Instead we get crap like Flappy Bird and oh a new redesigned User Interface!

    Everyone wants their own secret sauce to be kept hidden, and I want to beat them with a sack of doorknobs.

    nobody employed at a K-12 school has the ability or IQ to properly run and terminate cat6/fiber/etc let alone install a clean network rack.

    Ever single school my company is called in to fix was an utter nightmare that had to have most of the infrastructure gutted. Idiots just running non plenum wire in the ceiling ducts, etc...

    If you want it half assed, let the school do it. If you want ti right, hire a real company of professionals to come in and install it right so it has a chance to survive the school's staff.

    In my old days the laptop battery did not charge, you simply replaced the standard 4 AA batteries and kept on truckin... Tandy 100 FTW!

    I even had the acoustic coupler modem, hacked many a UUNET dial up nodes from payphones with that wonderful laptop.

    All the others from Samsung and the rest have two major SUCK failure points...

    1 - Have to charge it daily : FAIL.
    2 - cant read it in direct sunlight : FAIL.

    The pebble does both perfectly and for Under $150 if you buy the normal one.

    Actually that 80 hour a week guy will quit without notice really fucking the company.

    Hell I took my vacation time left and called in sick for the last days I had in my sick bank while I worked at my new job.. the day I was supposed to be back at my old job I walked in at 8 am dropped my badge and keys on my bosses desk and said, "I quit, hope you can hire the 3 guys you will need to replace me quickly." I had informed HR that I was quitting in writing that morning at 7am when they got there.

    It screwed them over hard, really hard. I got a call from the VP begging for me to come back with a 30% pay increase 2 hours after I walked out the door. I said he doesn't have enough money in the world for me to work there anymore, I wished them luck replacing me.

    Funny thing, 6 months later the 2008 crash happened and they closed up for good.

    Keep telling yourself that, someday you will believe it.

    Want to know what another badge of honor is accepting a lower wage for those 16 hours. A real IT pro would take $16.00 an hour and sleep under their desk.
