IF your map is crap and does not have accurate Topo and landmarks on it, your compass is useless. 99% of the maps out there carried by people are useless. Some are good, but they are hard to get your hands on. Likea good topo map that shows trails and Antenna towers as well as detailed topo information and is not from 1942 but an actual recent date.
Which is why you can spot the poseurs easily. real travelers have a standard GPS that uses AA or AAA batteries. I have a garmin foretrex on me for navigation. get to airport? mark waypoint. get to hotel? mark waypoint. batteries die? who cares, either insert the spare set I have or buy a set at any store or road side stand.
My survival bag has one as well, I can go 2 weeks on a single set of lithium AA batteries. so 2 sets will last longer than I will in a survival situation. Far more useful than a compass and a map that is probably useless (I have yet to meet any hiking or backpacker with a useful map, most have the crap one the park hands you.)

My first attempt was preceded by reading about it all last winter, and early spring preparations. in this dismal growing season my personal patio garden was a cornucopia harvest all summer long. my special high tech planters cost $3.00 each from 5 gallon pickle pails I bought from the local restaurants. it's basically a hydroponics/ traditional growing technique that is brain dead easy and makes it a low effort high gain endeavor.

I have a 400 sq foot patio that I grew more produce than my family could eat. we had so many tomatoes I wasted 5 bushels on making KETCHUP. I have enough canned food from my small patio garden to last my family of 3 until feburary. If I would have tripled by garden by planting the neighbors yard, I would have not only fed my family until next summer but would have had food left over to feed the neighbors for a short while. Add in a rabbit pen and a chicken coop and I have the protien side complete, problem is the city wont allow it.
But due to the lack of education in the 1st world countries, most people cant figure this stuff out. They will be the first to starve. The rest of us that know what we are doing simply need to eat a lot less, as fat neighbors is a dead giveaway.
The group with the above average IQ is the ones that are utterly disgusted with the whole damn thing and anyone that is in politics. Ask and scientist, most are politics agnostic as they cant stand any side that exists.
