I service a CNC machine at a machine shop that STILL uses paper tape. I am the only guy that will touch the old hardware so I get paid $150 an hour to tinker with the stuff. Hell they cant find a IT company that can handle DOS so I also pick up the other old machines.
I love it, 1 long afternoon/evening there and I go home with $1000 in my pocket.
set up a DB, make a web interface in PHP or ASP. call it done. that way employees can look and request without adding software, and HR can approve, deny and pull reports.
Honestly, less than a day's worth of work for someone that is mildly capable in web programming.
The author can wax poetic all over it. I think it's worthless garbage. So much so that I now filter my facebook stream and have it hide anything posted by friends that has the word "Shared" in it or "Liked" in it.
I personally look at this new trend as proof that Facebook has jumped the shark like MySpace did. so the next big Exodus is about to happen to the next social website service....
I'll wait longer. I will not upgrade to 10.8.x until I have to. the upgrade to 10.7.x already caused problems with older apps that I used (try to install Garageband Track packs... oh sorry they dont work, re purchase them for the version that will work)

Removal of scroll bars on OSX is not a big deal, Apple hardware had scrolling devices (magic mouse and multitouch pad) for a long time. so scrolling is not affected on that platform. Removal of scroll bars on Ubuntu was the stupidest move ever. I dont have a multitouch device to scroll with, so now I have to hit a 2 pixel bar on a window. WTF is that??!?!?! ROWARRGH!
Ubuntu needs to stop everything they are doing right now and support apple multitouch hardware and tell everyone to use X,Y or Z and suck it up. OR they need to stop chasing a UI that requires special hardware to make it useable.
Now the "single window" mode is retarded. on a 27" mac it is utterly stupid to do this. on a 11" macbook air? ok, I can see that. Dumbification of the UI needs to be optional. Let me have a "professional mode" to switch to a power users multiple window setup.

I had no problems with X11R5 on linux in 1994-1995. in fact... yggdrasil had everything you needed. you did need a decent video card, and the bigest annoyance was that I could not afford a 17" monitor to run at 1024X768 that most apps and GUI's wanted. Again you mention there were 0 GUI's. TCL/TK was alive and well. and FVWM was a fine window manager back then in 1995...
Dont need to. I know a LOT of people with mac's and they dont have ANY problems. most of the time it is a crap access point and you will find that Windows people are having the same problems. If I listened to the "internet" then all Segate Momentus XT drives were crap. less than 2% had problems yet that 2% was 100% of the noise screaming about the problems with OSX and Macbook Compatibility.
get your hardware fixed. I dont have that problem on my horribly old 2009 17" macbook pro or the out of date 2011 13" macbook pro my wife has.
The only time I experienced that ws with a piece of crap Wireless router from belkin. Ripping it off the wall and smashing it solved the problem, well after it was replaced with a netgear.
