the OS needs to load, then be connected to the internet. If I boot it without connecting to the internet it's not going to call home. Contrary to uninformed people, Laptops do not have a GSM modem in them with a GPS and a free data plan.

I cant. Kindle is the ONLY ones making a 10" epaper display. Nook is a tiny toy great for paperbacks but useless for educational and scientific texts. If nook would release a 10" unit or better yet an a4 page size screen unit. I would be all over it as would every single college student and college looking for a decent reader for college textbooks.
Paying a REASONABLE price is always preferable to people. and that is the point. a 1 hour TV show is NOT WORTH more than 0.99 to most people. A longer special like the example is worth more.
The problem is that CBS,NBC,ABC,Viacom,etc all think that tv show is worth $$BILLIONS$$ZOMG! and it is in reality not. If I cant view it for free on my TV then THAT is the value of it to me. You had better price it so close to that value that I dont care about the cost 1/2 hour sitcom single viewing? $0.50 is the top reasonable price without commercials. and THAT is far more they are getting per set of eyeballs than any advertising is making them.

But buying a Sony Technology that funds the MPAA does that to people.

Requiem for a Dream, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, etc... all for examples of RECENT films made without paying insane money to writes, directors and Actors.
In fact many of the Best films in history were low budget and not outrageous cost.
In fact Robert Rodriguez makes some of the absolute best films ever for less than the catering bill for many of the Hollywood "block busters"
Education markets get a volume discount, it's been this way for decades with apple. Macbook's just a few years ago were $599.00 to schools, that is $400 off of retail.
You really need to research what schools pay, Apple is common in schools because they give drastic discounts. Microsoft does as well, Windows site licenses and Server with unlimited client licenses are free to most any school. For some school districts, that's millions of dollars in free software.
