"Also, what about the freezer portion? Nearly every fridge made has a separate freezer section. Adding that into the equation would, again, increase the overall size."
do what rich people already do.
1 fridge 1 freezer And the size stays the same... just laying down, look at photos of chest freezers. and there are already homes that use these types of systems already. the only problem is that people use the top of the fridge as counterspace.
Honestly who cares about pushing wide adoption. if you really care about efficency or trying to be off grid you make sacrifices for traditional looks or operation for what you are interested in. It's why most people that care about efficiency will not live in the typical poorly designed home.
"Even more if homeowners realize that, with proper landscaping and insulation, it is possible maintain a very comfortable temperature with the windows open and air conditioner off even when it is 90 degrees outside."
I had a home that we almost never ran the AC during the summer because it was properly built and engineered. IT was a Geodesic Dome home that had a row of windows at ground level on the windward side and a cupola at the peak of the dome with windows that would open. Even on 98 degree days it was 10 degrees cooler in the home. and that temperature differential coupled with moving air made it very comfortable even in 60% humidity.
The problem is most homes are designed by morons for a "look" and not for efficiency or even occupancy.
From over 6 years ago.... this setup would keep food cold for several days without power. and at 100 watts used per day (4.2WattHour) a very small computer UPS will keep it running for most of the outage.
90% of homes do NOT have variable rate power. so you dont pay less at night. the losses involved with this setup are enough to offset any savings even if you had a variable rate billing based on time of day.
Which is offset even more by having a vehicle that will easily last 10+ years. in fact many that do just this can go 20+ years between big truck purchases because use is so low.
Smarter business dont even buy that truck. they rent one when needed.
"I seem to recall there was a very sharp, distinct response to it from Americans then. I wonder what the response will be now?"
Not a damn thing. 98% of Americans are happy with their Cable TV and this makes them very complacent. Honestly we could invoke martial law and have tanks and soldiers in the streets asking for papers at checkpoints and 90% of Americans will tolerate it without a whimper.
50% will praise it. Especially if it's sold as "protecting freedom" bullshit they have been pulling since 9/11..
As Americans we gladly trade out freedoms for security. We are a very scared and frightened people. The people of this country are nothing like the people that were here in 1776. We are a faded shadow of those people. There ARE some real Americans out there that are pissed that we have been giving up our freedoms like candy, But they are outnumbered by the scared "protect me daddy gubment" types 20 to 1.
The Government of Greenland is very clean. In fact they told the banks to stuff it and let them collapse. This put the country in a better position that the idiot move the USA did to protect the wealth of a few hundred billionaires.
And if you do not read and MODIFY your contract you deserve all you get. I have NEVER signed any contract that I did not strike out sections I do not agree with.
I predict a bunch of people that know nothing at all about car safety to complain.
They ignore that the Nissan Leaf has a HIGHER SAFETY RATING than ANY truck or SUV ever made. Oh wait that is a fact that goes against their limited education.. Cant have that....
No but it makes me smile every time the dummies complain about the cost of fill up at the gas station.. I am glad they enjoy their choice every time they fill up and hand over $70.00 for a tank of gas.
and if your car does not have a turbo or Supercharger, then you are a complete and utter idiot.
On the other hand, those of us that have an IQ build the cars that are faster than yours for far cheaper... and guess what, at 725HP on a 2800lb car it beats the hell out of the dog you drive while using cheap gas.
Mostly because it's horribly overpriced. IT's a $25,000 car, NOT a $56,000 car they are asking for with a promise of a tax rabate that the rest of us get to pay.
"Sure, not everyone needs and SUV, but many business do need an F250 to pull some heavy equipment."
Sure, not everyone needs and SUV, but many business do need an F250 to pull some heavy equipment once in a while, but the owner likes to feel more manly and drives the damn thing daily to work without hauling anything and most of the time a baseline F150 would do just fine..
Honestly, the business owners if he used his bigger head would not own a F250 but actually buy a F350 or a flat bed truck that is far more useful and leave it parked at the shop 99% of the time and only use it when it is needed. Most dont.
Back when the Dodge caravan came out, my father modified it from the 3 speed tranny to a 4 speed overdrive tranny and a smaller 2.8 V6 engine. Gas mileage jumped from 18 highway to 32 highway. and this was with a carbeurator. Car makers are full of crap, higher efficency can EASILY be attained, but they are more interested in profit margin than anything else.
Car makers dont give a rats ass about anything but larger profit margins. Otherwise we would already have high MPG cars. Honestly a VW bug with a 1400cc engine had decent performance and got 40mpg. and YES they were safe to drive contrary to the panzy babies out there that freak if they dont have 74 airbags.
My dad's 30 year old McIntosh System with Kilpsch LaScalas sounds like crap compared to my Anthem setup with RBH speakers. Honestly the mid level stuff like Anthem and others are far FAR better than the mid to high level stuff from 30 years ago. Problem is most people own utter crap because they freak out at spending $4500 for just the preamp and another $3800 for the amplifiers.. instead they buy $800 crap and maybe splurge and get upper low end speakers that are under $1000.00
Buy good stuff instead of crap and it sounds fantastic. Mostly because the drivers are better and the speaker design has real engineering in it. Granted, you can go insane and waste money on stuff like Richard Gray's power conditioners that do absolutely nothing but are the darling of Audiophiles.... as well as $30,000 speakers that are more art than speaker...
You CAN get a very good system for under $5500 complete.. but you cant buy it at best buy.

OR get a fridge that is actually efficient to begin with. front door fridges are a very dumb design.

From over 6 years ago.... this setup would keep food cold for several days without power. and at 100 watts used per day (4.2WattHour) a very small computer UPS will keep it running for most of the outage.
Or do what most electrical companies do, build a power reservoir.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludington_Pumped_Storage_Power_Plant
Problem is a LOT of power is lost in the process, Just like using the car battery or even a dedicated battery would.
90% of homes do NOT have variable rate power. so you dont pay less at night. the losses involved with this setup are enough to offset any savings even if you had a variable rate billing based on time of day.
It's a net loss no matter how you look at it.
Which is offset even more by having a vehicle that will easily last 10+ years. in fact many that do just this can go 20+ years between big truck purchases because use is so low.
Smarter business dont even buy that truck. they rent one when needed.
I've had TONS of good luck with that. In fact every job I have had over the past 15 years I have done that. EVERY SINGLE TIME.
In fact the last 2 jobs I was headhunted for. That's probably the difference, my marketability is far higher than yours.
With enough time and bars of soap in socks I can make you plead guilty to most anything.
And the nice part is soap in a sock does not leave marks... and oh that camera there was offline at the time.
So we should Egg and TP his house instead?

Fixed that for you.

Mostly because of Ford and GM making sure that Public transportation system in america was sub par.
If you had a light rail train station in your nearest town, you could drive to that train station and take the train to where ever you wanted to go.

my 1.6 in my civic works great and is actually quite fast with that tiny turbo on it. 12.5 quarter mile is not slow.
Honda insight first edition was aluminum and dented if you looked at it funny.

Wait, can I smoke it? I have Glaucoma... Cough Cough... Wait, Glaucoma has a cough right?
Keep telling yourself that...
a skilled speaker cabinet maker wont build you a single unfinished DECENT cabinet for $500.00
