It's because all DVD's and BluRays that come into my home are required to run through handbrake and into a mp4 file before they can be watched. This strips out all the advertising crap and means the discs are left in a like new condition in the storage cabinet in the basement. Kids and other never touch the discs.

Honestly, you will never get 1080p content from Cable, Dish or OTA. it's 720p source material and I dont care what setting you use on the box, you're watching compressed 720p material. ATSC OTA is the best you will get while Comcast/TimeWarner/Dish/DirectTV will feed you a highly compressed version. your only real source of 1080p is from BluRay discs and most of those are not created with source material that is 1080p or higher. Oh boy, the remastered Rocky Horror Picture Show on BLuRaY! I can now see film Grain! YAY! it looks better on the 10 year old DVD I have.

Also, how about multiple wireless HDMI units? What if I use this in the living room and the bedroom and the Basement? do they claim I can run 3 sets of these all within 30 -40 feet of each other and have no problems? How about people that live in tightly packed condos? I can see 5 of these being within 30 feet of each other.

Really, why not just drop the HDMI/HDCP worthless crap and let us simply stream via the ethernet to our devices? 802.11n can do 1080p at mpeg2:60mbps just fine. HDMI is not protecting anything. I rip blurays directly from the disc, and anything OTA or from a cable box can be ripped at full res from the Component outputs.. if they try to sunset component out on DTV boxes they will have a world of hurt coming in bad PR. Plus HDMI is broken, you can get DSP programs on the web to make your own realtime HDCP scrubber for less than $60.00 in parts.

Yup, that is what I said in a more detailed nutshell.

It STOPS Firesheep dead and other attacks that are simple one clicks. in fact I mention, "It does not give you security, but it makes it far harder for script kiddie click and hack tools to actually find anything."

There are NO click-and-hack tools that will extract this info from a captured pile of data pulled from a "promiscuous mode" wifi card and do this. so it actually cuts out 95% of the script kiddies that will simply post GNAA posts on your pages. If you think a script kiddie has the ability to use wifi tools and actually has a Monitor mode capable Wifi adapter then you give them too much credit. In fact simply read the netstumbler forums or the other Wifi cracking forums... finding a wifi chipset that does allow it is not super easy.

BTW, promiscuous mode is typically associated with wired card. For wireless cards it's usually called monitor mode.

AP isolation simply works, I tested it when the news first broke about this to answer customers questions. Problem is you cant tell if you are on a AP isolated WAP. but a Properly set up Open AP prevents firesheep from working.

  15. Re:A little paranoia here... on How To Protect Against Firesheep Attacks · · Score: 0, Troll

Open WLAN done by garbage WAPs do this. A decent WAP will not make it easy. Ones I install issue a complete seperate IP address and subnet for each connected person... It does not give you security, but it makes it far harder for script kiddie click and hack tools to actually find anything.

"Creates a separate virtual network for your wireless network. When this feature is enabled, each of your wireless client will be in its own virtual network and will not be able to communicate with each other. You may want to utilize this feature if you have many guests that frequent your wireless network."

It's called AP isolation and only a half assed install done by a n00b or wanna-be networking person does not have it enabled. Simply enabling this on a Open WAP castrates the firesheep quickly.

So it's only a problem at places where a complete idiot set up the wireless.

Here in the real world the Judges and Police happily trample a persons right and due process to do whatever the hell they want.

In Auzzie land it must be very lax for legal documents. Here in the USA you must be served the real paperwork. Although some scumbag judges and dirty cops like to skirt the law and do whatever it takes.

For Example: Emanuel Goldstein was served papers while he was out of the state. they knocked on his door, someone else answered and they literally THREW the papers through the open doorway.

This is technically not a legal serving of papers, but judges allow and encourage such bending of the law all the time.
