    Manned space missions are a joke. Just a stunt by the flyboys who run NASA out of Houston. The real science is done by unmanded probes from JPL out of Pasadena.

    By "inconvenience" do you mean getting sent to a "re-education" camp? I will have respect for the Chinese space program when they let the Free World's media in on the launches, flights, and pre-launch activities. Until then it is propaganda stunt at best and militarization of space at worse.     At some point in the near future, all cars will be equipped with GPS transponders. These are already required for many trucks; personal vehicles are next. The People's Republic of Massachusetts and some other states are considering requiring it for autos, supposely to tax your mileage, ha. Next will be a requirement for all of us to carry a personal GPS device, like, ah, a cell phone.

    Yes another reason to not have a cell phone. I don't have one and don't miss this electonic leash a bit. I intend to enjoy these last few years of freedom before Big Brother REQUIRES us all to carry one. Already various states are thinking of requiring GPS-enabled transponders in cars.

    The Russian Mars-96 probe never left orbit and dumped 200 grams of Plutonium 238 over Bolivia, none of which has been recovered...at least no one is talking about it.     The Ruskies burn the Planetary Society yet again; this time instead of destroying their solar sails, it will be their LIFE experiment which was supposed to send various humble life forms to and from Mars to see how they did in interplanetary space. In the 70's and 80' there was this romantic notion of joint Russian / American flights being the missions of the future. Seems as if Planetary Society bought into this whole hog but there must be some soul searching now. Intriguingly there might be some scientific value to the LIFE experiment if the wreckage of the P-G can be located. BTW, it might be time to review what happened to the mysteriously dissapearing 200 grams of plutonium that Russia's Mar-96 probe spread across Bolivia when it also failed....

    Once anyone starts monkeying around with the climate, they can expect a blizzard of lawsuits for any weather events that plantifs can dream up. Car accidents, crop failures, floods, lightening strikes, storm damage, too much rain, too little rain, too hot, too cold, fog, ice, etc. But not just the major stuff but any old fakakta excuse to sue; expect to hear this: "My daughter's pool party was rained out; I want damages" This a really bad idea...

    Isn't Raytheon the people who had the Patriot missile software bug? Since this software was written by a defense contractor you can rest assured that the motivation was purely profit not delivering an effective product. And all the programmers were probably laid off as soon as the project was finished (but not necessarily done).

    Why don't you just staple a radio locator beacon to your head and broadcast all your phone conversations over a loud speaker because that is what a cell phone does. At some point in the near future we will all be required carry a GPS-enabled device so we can be tracked; I intend to enjoy these last few years of freedom before Big Brother "protects" us from various non-existant threats. You might think I am kidding, but some states such as Tax-a-chusetts is considering transponders for every car in the state so that (supposedly) can tax you on the amount of miles you drive; I think other states already have transponders (or considering them). Next will be personal transponders. My life is quite nice thank you without being tethered to my wife and job all the time with a damn cell phone. A cell phone would not make my life easier; it is just an expensive, Big-Brother-is-watching nuisance.

    The Krakatoa eruption was a long drawn out affair with a lot of violent volcanic activity before it blew its top off. Still Occam's Razor would suggest that migrating warblers, vireos, and thrush were what was being seen. He was right in line of the migration route at the right time of year and thousands of birders have seen these shapes during migration.

    No, no, no you guys missed the point. A comet does not have to have a 1 year orbit for this to happen; the train lasts for decades. The debris train from this putative comet would be massive and create a quite a spectacle every summer (and probably rip up the satellite fleet), but it has not happened (although I did not check the historical records for the years after this date). If it did happen for a few years afterwards, surely the event would have been noted.

    Ditch your cell phones or at least turn them off (if you can) most of the time. As Stallman said, "Cellphones are Stalin's dream." Don't make it easy for them. I have not turned my phone on for weeks and I don't miss it a bit...you young pups out there may not believe this, but in the old days we somehow survived without any cell phones. Oh the horror! Actually it was quite pleasant not being interrupted all the time....
